Keep in mind that for most of these partners, you’ll receive a bonus of 5,000 airline miles for every 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points you transfer to that airline. Most of the partners transfer at a 3:1 ratio, but not all. In most instances, you’ll receive 25,000 airline miles in exchange for 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. Transfers to American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Avianca, and Korean Air do not get the 5,000-mile bonus.

Points transfer between Marriott Bonvoy and United MileagePlus at a 3:1.1 ratio, which is slightly better than other partners. If you transfer 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to United, you’ll yield a total of 27,000 United miles.

You can transfer up to 240,000 Marriott Bonvoy points in a day — doing so would leave you with 100,000 airline miles with all partners except United, where you’d have 108,000 MileagePlus miles.

Hot Tip: Transferring your points to an airline partner is a great way to “empty out” your account if you don’t have many to work with. Explore other great ways to use 10,000 or fewer Marriott Bonvoy points.

The 37 Best Ways To Redeem Your Marriott Bonvoy Points for Flights

1. Fly Cathay Pacific Premium Cabins to the Middle East or Australia (Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan)

Cathay Pacific first class. Image Credit: Cathay Pacific

Alaska Airlines provides some amazing opportunities to enjoy premium cabin products.

You can use 70,000 Alaska miles for a one-way first class ticket between the U.S. and Hong Kong (HKG). The same flight would cost just 50,000 miles in business class. To book a one-way ticket between the U.S. and Australia, redeem 60,000 miles in business class or 80,000 miles in first class.

Lastly, business class between the U.S. and the Middle East is 62,500 miles, while first class is 70,000 miles.

If you think that’s a great first class deal, then you’ll love this: for no additional miles, you can continue to cities like Dubai (DXB) or Sydney (SYD) after a stopover in Hong Kong. Business class from the U.S. to Dubai or Australia via Hong Kong costs as few as 60,000 Alaska miles, which you can get by transferring 150,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

While it’s one of the most difficult award tickets to book, Qantas first class definitely should be on your bucket list.

For 70,000 miles, you can fly from the U.S. to Australia or New Zealand in luxury. If you transfer 180,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to Alaska Mileage Plan, you’ll receive 75,000 miles — more than enough for a one-way first class ticket.

Long considered one of the top airlines in the world, you definitely won’t be disappointed by the Qantas first class experience!

4. Fly Fiji Airways Business Class to the South Pacific (Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan)

One of Alaska Airlines’ newer partners, Hainan Airlines provides a great way to get to China from several gateways throughout the U.S.

For only 50,000 miles one-way (which you can get by transferring 120,000 Marriott Bonvoy points), you can fly business class with Hainan to many cities in China.

While not as well-known as some of Alaska’s other partner airlines, Hainan is a solid option to consider the next time you cross the Pacific.

Update: The airline has currently suspended its U.S. route network, but we imagine it will resume flights once China relaxes border restrictions.

7. Stopovers on One-way Flights (Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan)

Enjoy a stopover in Hong Kong when flying Alaska partner Cathay Pacific. Image Credit: Greg Stone

When booking a one-way ticket with the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, you have the option to include a stopover on your journey.

As we noted earlier, you can include a stopover in Hong Kong on your way to South Africa on Cathay Pacific. This is a great way to easily add a second city to your travel plans.

Remember to look into stopover options when booking with Mileage Plan; it’s one of the best ways to get the most out of your miles.

8. Fly Etihad First Class (American Airlines AAdvantage)

One of the best first class experiences you can fly is Etihad first class. For 115,000 AAdvantage miles, you can fly first class from either New York (JFK) or Washington, D.C. (IAD) to Abu Dhabi (AUH). Transfer 345,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to yield the 115,000 AAdvantage miles needed to make this booking.

Alternatively, Etihad’s business class product costs 70,000 AAdvantage miles to fly one-way from the U.S. to Abu Dhabi. Transfer 210,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to receive 70,000 AAdvantage miles.

Like with several other American Airlines partners, you will need to find availability on Qantas’ website, then call to complete the booking. Start looking early, as award space is often sparse.

11. Fly Qatar Airways QSuites Between Doha and Japan or Korea (American Airlines AAdvantage)

For only 40,000 AAdvantage miles (transfer 120,000 Marriott Bonvoy points), you can fly between the Middle East and Japan or South Korea in business class. This provides a great opportunity to try Qatar Airways’ fantastic business class product.
If you’re departing from Doha, you’ll also be able to enjoy Qatar’s excellent business class lounge.

12. Fly Air France or KLM With Promo Rewards (Air France/KLM Flying Blue)

Air France business class. Image Credit: Air France

Without a doubt, one of the best ways to use the Flying Blue frequent flyer program is to book Promo Rewards.

Every month, Flying Blue offers discounts of 25% to 50% on flights to and from different European cities.

Ever since Air France/KLM removed its award chart and went to a variable award system, it’s been difficult to predict how much awards will cost. The lowest award prices can be attained from the Flying Blue calculator.

With a maximum of a 50% discount, a business class flight to Europe can cost as few as 27,500 miles (67,500 Marriott Bonvoy points). While Flying Blue does pass on surcharges for award bookings, these Promo Rewards are still a great option to consider.

13. Utilize Flying Blue’s Definition of Europe (Air France/KLM Flying Blue)

KLM business class. Image Credit: KLM

A second way in which Flying Blue really stands out is its definition of the European region: countries like Algeria, Israel, Morocco, and Tunisia are included.

This means you can book one-way business class flights from 55,000 miles (transfer 135,000 Marriott Bonvoy points), or from 15,000 miles (transfer 45,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) each way in economy.

If you see a Promo Reward to one of these countries, that can take this deal to another level. So don’t forget Flying Blue when you want to visit Israel or North Africa — you might be able to get an amazing flight for a steal.

14. Fly Korean Air First Class (Korean Air SKYPASS)

Korean Air’s newest first class product is the Kosmo Suites 2.0. Image Credit: Korean Air

If you’re looking for easy access to first class award space, look no further than Korean Air.

For 80,000 miles (transfer 240,000 Marriott Bonvoy points), you can book an off-peak, one-way ticket in first class to South Korea. If you’d like to see Japan too, you can book a stopover in Seoul on your way to Tokyo.

While you can’t book Korean Air first class with partner miles, booking through its own program ensures there’s more space available.

15. Fly Air France to Tahiti (Korean Air SKYPASS)

Air France economy class. Image Credit: Air France

A fun — but often forgotten — way to get from Los Angeles to Tahiti is on Air France. You can use 90,000 Korean miles (transfer 270,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) for a round-trip journey in business class or 60,000 miles for a round-trip economy ticket (transfer 180,000 Marriott Bonvoy points).

You’ll notice we mention the round-trip cost for this award. This is because Korean Air requires round-trip bookings for partner airlines.

16. Fly SkyTeam Partners to Europe (Korean Air SKYPASS)

KLM economy class. Image Credit: KLM

While many programs will charge over 100,000 miles for a round-trip business class flight to Europe, Korean Air only charges 80,000 miles (transfer 240,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) for tickets on any of its SkyTeam partners. And for 50,000 Korean Air SKYPASS miles (transfer 150,000 Bonvoy points), you can book a round-trip in economy, which is a great deal, too!

Korean Air does pass on carrier-imposed surcharges, so this can make the cash cost a bit higher than you’d find with some other award tickets. However, round-trip bookings do allow for a stopover and an open jaw so you can see more of Europe.

17. Fly Delta to Hawaii (Korean Air SKYPASS)

Use Korean Air miles to fly Delta to Hawaii for one of the cheapest ways to visit the islands. Image Credit: Delta Air Lines

Without a doubt, using Korean Air miles is one of the best ways to visit Hawaii. A round-trip economy ticket only costs 25,000 miles (transfer 75,000 Marriott Bonvoy points). Most U.S.-based airlines will charge at least 5,000 miles more for comparable tickets.

18. Fly a Cheap Business Class Award to Europe (Etihad Guest)

Fly Brussels Airlines in business class for 88,000 Etihad miles round-trip. Image Credit: Brussels Airlines

Redeem 88,000 Etihad miles (transfer 219,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) for a round-trip business class ticket between New York (JFK) and Brussels (BRU) on Brussels Airlines.

You can also fly this route in economy class for 54,000 Etihad miles (transfer 132,000 Marriott Bonvoy points). The same rates apply for flights from Toronto (YYZ) and Washington, D.C. (IAD) to Brussels.

Availability can be tough to find, especially in business class, so we suggest planning ahead on this one. It’s definitely worth a little extra effort!

19. Fly Royal Air Maroc to Casablanca (Etihad Guest)

Royal Air Maroc’s business class product is a unique way to use your Etihad miles. Image Credit: Royal Air Maroc

The 2 previous redemptions are route-specific, but Etihad’s award chart for Royal Air Maroc flights is distance-based.

We’ve done some digging and found a sweet spot redemption. Fly between Miami (MIA), New York (JFK), or Washington, D.C. (IAD) and Casablanca (CMN) in business class for only 44,000 Etihad miles (transfer 117,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) each way or 22,000 miles each way in economy (transfer 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points).

20. Fly Oman Air Business Class (Etihad Guest)

Find a great business class product on an under-the-radar airline with Oman Air. Image Credit: Cherag Dubash

Oman Air doesn’t have the name recognition of some other famous Middle Eastern carriers, but its business class product is highly regarded by all who have tried it.
If you want to give this small airline a try, Etihad’s Guest program provides 2 award sweet spots you’ll want to check out.

A one-way business class flight between London-Heathrow (LHR) and Muscat (MCT) costs 44,000 miles (transfer 117,000 Marriott Bonvoy points), while a one-way business class flight between Muscat and Jakarta (SIN) costs just 48,000 miles (transfer 120,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to earn 50,000 miles).

21. Fly American Airlines First and Business Class at Pre-devaluation Rates (Etihad Guest)

Etihad provides better redemption rates for business and first class flights on American Airlines. Image Credit: Stephen Au

Etihad has a fantastic award chart if you want to fly American Airlines. Let’s look at some of these one-way flight options:

  • Fly to Asia 1 (Japan, Korea, Mongolia) for 50,000 miles (transfer 120,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) in business class or 62,500 miles (transfer 158,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to get 62,666 miles) in first class
  • Fly to the South Pacific (Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, etc.) for 62,500 miles (transfer 158,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to get 62,666 miles) in business class and 67,500 miles (transfer 173,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to get 67,666 miles) in first class
  • Fly to Europe for 50,000 miles (transfer 120,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) in business class or 62,500 miles (transfer 158,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to get 62,666 miles) in first class
  • Fly to Asia 2 (China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, etc.) for 55,000 miles (transfer 135,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) in business class and 67,500 miles (transfer 173,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to get 67,666 miles) in first class

American Airlines may have devalued its award chart years ago, but you can still get the old award flight rates by using Etihad miles.

22. British Airways Travel Together — Fly First Class With a Companion (British Airways Executive Club)

Use your British Airways Visa Signature® Card to earn a Travel Together certificate and fly first class with a friend. Image Credit: Alex Miller

If there’s 1 thing that people always seem to remember about booking award flights with British Airways, it’s that you should expect high taxes and fees — especially on first class tickets.

However, if you have a British Airways co-branded credit card, you can earn a Travel Together Ticket. To earn this perk, you’ll need to spend $30,000 on your British Airways Visa card during a calendar year.

Here’s an example of how the Travel Together Ticket works: you could book a round-trip first class flight on British Airways from Los Angeles (LAX) to London (LHR) for an off-peak award cost of 170,000 Avios (transfer 420,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) plus about $1,900 to $2,100 taxes and fees.

For no additional miles, your companion can be booked in first class with you. They’re only responsible for the taxes and fees on their companion pass.

23. Short-haul Flights Abroad (British Airways Executive Club)

Japan Airlines economy class. Image Credit: Japan Airlines

If you need a short-haul flight while abroad, there’s a good chance Avios will be your best option.

For flights 650 miles or shorter, you can book a one-way economy ticket for only 4,000 Avios (transfer 12,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) during off-peak dates and 4,500 Avios (transfer 14,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to get 4,666 Avios) during peak dates. This can be a great way to see multiple cities in countries like Japan.

In the U.S., flights that are 650 miles or shorter now cost 7,500 Avios (transfer 23,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to get 7,666 Avios). This can still be a solid deal, but abroad is where you will really maximize the value of short-haul flights booked with Avios.

24. West Coast to Hawaii (British Airways Executive Club)

American Airlines Main Cabin. Image Credit: American Airlines

Flights to Hawaii are not cheap. Fortunately, Avios provide a fantastic option from the West Coast.

You can fly either American Airlines or Alaska Airlines to Hawaii for only 12,500 Avios (transfer 38,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to get 12,667 Avios) one-way in economy class.

25. Fly China Airlines Business Class to Asia (Flying Blue)

The Flying Blue program offers exceptional value, especially on China Airlines business class flights. If you know where to look, though, you can get convenient, high-quality business class flights booked with Flying Blue miles.

You can fly Taipei-based China Airlines in business class for between 90,000 to 100,000 Flying Blue miles (transfer 225,000 to 240,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) one-way to Asia. If you have a stash of Flying Blue miles, you’ll want to give this option a look.

26. Fly Virgin Atlantic Upper Class (Virgin Atlantic Flying Club)

Virgin’s Upper Class. Image Credit: Adam Gerrard via Virgin Atlantic

Known for its fun atmosphere, Virgin Atlantic is a fantastic experience when crossing the Atlantic.

For around 47,500 to 77,500 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points (transfer 120,000 to 187,500 Marriott Bonvoy points), you can try its Upper Class product.

Just keep in mind that fuel surcharges will hover around $750 to $825 in each direction. Be sure to also try out the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at London-Heathrow!

27. Fly ANA Business Class to Japan (ANA Mileage Club)

Enjoy the comfort of ANA business class. Image Credit: Stephen Au

Before we get into some fun ways to use ANA miles, there are a few important points to remember. Awards must be booked as round-trip, and some partner awards include significant taxes and fees.

There are also regular- and low-season awards for flights operated by ANA. Predictably, low-season awards require fewer miles, so you’ll want to book during those times if possible. Finally, you can utilize stopovers and open jaws with ANA Mileage Club!

Now, let’s talk about flying ANA to Japan in business class. During the regular season, you can fly business class on ANA for 85,000 miles (transfer 210,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) round-trip. During the low season, the same flights will cost 75,000 miles (transfer 180,000 Marriott Bonvoy points). If you choose to fly a partner airline, it will always be 85,000 miles.

The same routes in economy class will cost 50,000 miles (transfer 120,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) round-trip during the regular season and just 40,000 miles (transfer 105,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) during the low season.

28. Fly ANA Business Class to Asia (ANA Mileage Club)

ANA’s new business class seating is unparalleled. Image Credit: ANA

ANA breaks up Asia into 2 zones:

  • Asia 1 — China, Guam, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines
  • Asia 2 — India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam

Round-trip business class tickets to Asia 1 cost only 80,000 miles (transfer 195,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) during low season or 95,000 miles during regular season (transfer 240,000 Marriott Bonvoy points).

A round-trip economy ticket will cost 45,000 miles (transfer 120,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) during low season, 55,000 miles during regular season (transfer 135,000 Marriott Bonvoy points), and 60,000 miles (transfer 150,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) during high season.

Round trip business class award flights to the Asia 2 zone are 100,000 ANA miles (transfer 240,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) during low season or 110,000 miles (transfer 270,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) during regular season. An economy trip will cost 55,000 miles (transfer 135,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) during low season, 65,000 miles (transfer 165,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) during regular season, and 70,000 miles (transfer 180,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) during high season.

29. Fly Around the World (ANA Mileage Club)

ANA Economy Class. Image Credit: ANA

If you’re up for a real adventure (and have a little time), ANA has an Around the World award chart. You can include up to 8 stopovers on this journey: 3 can be in Europe and 4 can be in Japan.

Before you start booking, keep in mind that your journey must travel in 1 direction (east or west) and your trip cannot be fewer than 10 days. Additionally, you cannot use an open jaw in Latin America, North America, or South America.

Because this is a distance-based chart, you can create a trip for as low as 20,000 ANA miles (transfer 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) in economy if it’s under 2,000 flown miles.

If you want to try something truly extraordinary, you can create an itinerary that has you travel between 44,001 and 50,000 miles in first class. That trip would cost 450,000 ANA miles (transfer 1,080,000 Marriott Bonvoy points).

30. Fly Lufthansa First Class to Europe (Asiana Club)

Lufthansa first class. Image Credit: Greg Stone

Long a favorite of travelers, the Lufthansa first class experience is something you don’t want to miss. With Asiana Club, you can fly from the U.S. to Europe for only 50,000 miles one-way (transfer 120,000 Marriott Bonvoy points). This award booking will incur some hefty taxes and fees, but for only 50,000 miles it’s still a great deal!

To top it off, make sure you book a flight that allows you to experience the Lufthansa First Class Terminal — it’s a one-of-a-kind experience.

31. Fly Singapore Airlines First Class From New York (Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer)

Use your KrisFlyer miles to try Singapore Suites, one of the best first class experiences in the sky. Image Credit: Alex Miller

While there are several options for trying Singapore Airlines first class, one of the few routes from the U.S. is between New York (JFK) and Frankfurt (FRA). Even though it’s currently operated by a 777-300ER, Singapore Airlines routinely changes its aircraft utilized on this route, which can include the coveted A380 with Singapore Suites!

Without a doubt, Singapore Suites is one of the best first class experiences in the sky. You can book a one-way first class ticket on the JFK-FRA route for 97,000 KrisFlyer miles (transfer 240,000 Marriott Bonvoy points). If the 7-hour journey isn’t enough for you, fly from JFK to Singapore (with a connection in Frankfurt) instead for 148,500 miles (transfer 360,000 Marriott Bonvoy points).

For those who want to have some more fun, fly all the way to Sydney or Auckland via Frankfurt and Singapore for 188,000 miles (transfer 480,000 Marriott Bonvoy points).

Availability is often better on flights returning to the U.S., so you may have better luck booking something else on the outbound and saving Singapore first class for your journey home.

32. Fly United to Hawaii (Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer)

United first class. Image Credit: United

As one of the most popular destinations for travelers, we’re always looking for great redemptions to Hawaii.

United charges 22,500, 40,000, and 50,000 miles for economy, business, and first class, respectively.

You can do better by booking economy and business flights with KrisFlyer miles, since it only requires 19,500, 39,000, and 52,000 miles, respectively, for the exact same flights!

33. Fly First or Business Class to Europe or North Africa (Aegean Miles+Bonus)

Aegean Airlines business class. Image Credit: Aegean Airlines
Aegean Airlines might not be the most well-known Star Alliance member, but you don’t want to overlook some of the great value in its award chart.

One particular benefit to using Aegean miles is that it includes North Africa and Israel in its European region.

For these flights, you can use 75,000 Aegean miles (transfer 180,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) to fly first class one-way from the U.S. or 55,000 miles (transfer 135,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) to fly business class. This is a particularly great deal for flights to Israel.

Like many European carriers, you’ll be responsible for fuel surcharges, so that is something to consider. However, the low mileage cost could definitely make this a good option.

One more thing to remember: Aegean only allows 1 connection on award bookings, so plan for that when putting together your itinerary. If you need some more miles, check out our guide to earning Aegean Airlines miles.

34. Cheap Flights in North America and to the Caribbean (Aegean Miles+Bonus)

United economy class. Image Credit: United

Why use United miles when you can get the same United flight for at least 10,000 fewer miles? With Aegean miles, you can fly round-trip to the Caribbean for 25,000 miles (transfer 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) in economy class.

You can also fly in business class for 42,000 miles (transfer 111,000 Marriott Bonvoy points). That’s 18,000 miles fewer than what United charges!

These rates also apply to domestic flights on United. While the economy rate is the same as United, the business class rate will save you 8,000 miles.

35. Fly Business Class to Central or Southern Africa (Aegean Miles+Bonus)

If you’re looking for a great way to get to Central or Southern Africa, you can use 55,000 Aegean miles (transfer 135,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) for a one-way ticket in business class.

For comparison, the same flight would cost 80,000 United miles. That’s a difference of 25,000 miles!

36. Fly to the Remote Provinces of Canada (Air Canada Aeroplan)

Air Canada economy class. Image Credit: Air Canada

Reaching provinces such as the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon can be really expensive. We’re talking fares of $1,000 or more round-trip from the U.S. — and that’s for an economy ticket!

If you use Air Canada’s Aeroplan, you can redeem as few as 6,000 points for one-way tickets in economy:

  • 0 to 500 miles: 6,000 to 10,000 points
  • 501 to 1,500 miles: 10,000 to 15,000 points
  • 1,501 to 2,750 miles: 12,500 to 17,500 points

This is definitely one of the better economy redemptions for a flight that doesn’t leave North America.

Also, business class fares can easily cost you over $2,000. Again, Aeroplan comes in handy, with one-ways requiring as few as 15,000 points for business class:

  • 0 to 500 miles: 15,000 to 25,000 points
  • 501 to 1,500 miles: 20,000 to 35,000 points
  • 1,501 to 2,750 miles: 25,000 to 60,000 points

If you’re an adventurer, you will definitely want to keep this in mind for a trip way, way up north!

37. Fly Business Class to Western Europe (Air Canada Aeroplan)

Swiss Air business class. Image Credit: Swiss Air

While Air Canada’s Aeroplan program isn’t what it once was, it can still be a great way to get to Western Europe.

With as few as 60,000 points (transfer 150,000 Marriott points), you can book a one-way business class ticket from the U.S. to Western Europe, as long as the flight is shorter than 4,000 miles. Flights from 4,001 to 6,000 miles will cost 70,000 points (transfer 180,000 Marriott points).

Here are some great example routes that fall under 4,000 miles in distance:

  • Boston (BOS) to Munich (MUC)
  • New York City (JFK) to Geneva (GVA)
  • Washington, D.C. (IAD) to Lisbon (LIS)

If economy is more your speed, you can book a flight starting at around 35,000 points (transfer 90,000 Marriott Bonvoy points).

Best of all, Aeroplan does not pass on any fuel surcharges!

Not sure when this post was made, but looking on April 17, 2018 I know that at least two of your properties are at higher categories. The MOXY Milan Malpensa Airport (Category 2) – is now a (Category 3). The JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa (Category 5) is now a (Category 6).

I’m confused but my question is simple.

Are American Express Membership Rewards or Marriott Rewards points better to transfer to Emirates Skywards?

Stephen Au

January 06, 2019

Hey Dianne,

We believe that American Express points are better to transfer to Emirates because of the 1:1 ratio you can transfer at. Marriott transfers at a 3:1 ratio and it’s harder to earn Marriott points versus American Express points. Thanks for reading!

How did you arrive at the 60k point total with latam? My point estimate from SFO to Lima was 180k. Appreciate any help you can provide

Alex,

The mileage cost is based off of Alaska Airlines miles costs. Visit this link, enter your destinations, and find out your costs to get a better idea of how many Marriott points you’ll need to transfer.

I have this offer:
Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card
EARN 100K POINTS + GET A 0% INTRO APR for 6 months Spend $5000 in the first 3 months.

So trying to understand from what I read, I cannot actually book the flights directly with the 100,000 points. I fly to San Diego 2 times a year and would want to use the points for flights. So if reading this correctly – I would turn in 60,000 points which would then become 75,000 points but would only be 25,000 points for the airline, which won’t even buy me a ticket to San Diego. Is that correct? Also, at the end of each year (coming up) I have an expenditure for the following year that is around $5500. How would I know if that would be an approved purchase towards my points?
Lastly, who are the local airline partners?
Thank you for your article!

With every 60,000 Marriott points transferred to most Marriott airline partners, you’ll receive a 5,000-mile bonus. For example, if you transfer 60,000 Marriott points to Alaska Airlines, you’ll receive 25,000 Alaska Airlines miles.

For your upcoming $5,550 expense, put that spend on the Bonvoy Business card in the first 3 months that you apply for the card, and you will earn the 100k sign up bonus.

Marriott has 44 airline partners that can found in our Marriott Transfer Partners article

Hope this helps!

I have never used any points as of yet so I am unsure of how the points and miles work. I have just one simple question, cann you use points to upgrade your seating on American Airlines from CLT- BCN, with tickets being purchased in advance?

Jarrod West

Hi LaNovia,

Yes, you can use your AAdvantage miles for a single cabin upgrade from the cabin that was initially booked.
