Now Open: Chase Sapphire Terrace Debuts in Austin

You haven’t had enough of airport lounges, have you?

We hope not, because Chase has launched its first domestic airport experience.

Located in Austin, Texas, eligible cardholders can now take advantage of the Chase Sapphire Terrace.

Chase’s Sapphire Terrace

American Express was the first card issuer to launch a proprietary lounge network with its Centurion Lounges. Since then, both Chase and Capital One have announced their own versions of the concept, with complimentary access available for eligible cardholders.

While Capital One has already opened its first lounge in Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW), Chase has only launched 1 location so far — and it’s located in Hong Kong (HKG).

That’s just changed as the first Chase Sapphire Terrace debuted on March 20, 2023, at Austin–Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in Texas.

The Sapphire Terrace isn’t exactly an airport lounge. Rather, it’s an indoor-outdoor space within Austin’s airport that features lounge-like amenities. This includes places to relax, grab-and-go dining options, and complimentary alcoholic beverages.

Unlike regular Chase Sapphire lounges (which allow entry to Priority Pass members), the Sapphire Terrace will only be available to those who have the Chase Sapphire Reserve^® or J.P. Morgan Reserve Card.

Along with complimentary entry for themselves, cardholders will also be able to bring in 2 guests for free. Daily hours run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. — plenty of time for travelers to experience the space.

Austin Airport Lounges

Though it’s a rapidly growing airport, Austin doesn’t have much when it comes to lounges. There are no Priority Pass locations for those flying from Austin, though those with a membership will receive priority service on takeout orders they place at certain restaurants.

Other than this, there are just 3 other lounge options:

• American Admirals Club
• Delta Sky Club
• United Club

In general, these lounges are only available to those who have top-tier elite status and are traveling on an eligible flight or those who’ve purchased a club membership and are traveling on a same-day flight with the airline (except Delta, which gives access to those who have The Platinum Card^® from American Express and are flying on a same-day, Delta-operated flight).

Final Thoughts

It’s great that Chase has debuted its first domestic airport experience for Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders.

Even better, cardholders will be able to bring in up to 2 guests for free — making this a much more generous policy than what you’ll find at American Express’ Centurion Lounges.
