It also has a fairly generous free baggage policy for active duty U.S. military personnel and their dependents.

Size Restrictions

  • Standard: 22 x 14 x 9 inches (55.88 x 35.56 x 22.86 cm)

JetBlue does not have a weight restriction for carry-on items but states that you should be able to lift them into the overhead compartment unassisted.

Lap Infant Carry-on Policy

Stroller Check Policy

  • JetBlue offers a courtesy gate-check of strollers, car seats, child carriers/backpack carriers, and booster seats, or these items can be checked at a JetBlue check-in desk free of charge.

  • Cheaper fees are also applicable by adding baggage using an airport kiosk

Credit Cards That Give You a Free Checked Bag With JetBlue

The JetBlue Plus Card and The JetBlue Business Card each provide 1 free checked bag for you and up to 3 companions on your itinerary.

You can also use several credit cards that reimburse checked bag fees. You can even use the cards below in conjunction with the JetBlue cards if you need more than 1 checked bag.

Each card allows you to redeem Capital One miles for 1 cent each as a statement credit for previous travel purchases (within 90 days).

What if you want to cancel your flight and you already bought your prepaid baggage? My friend wanted to cancel her flight because of the Covid-19. Can she get her money back?

Jarrod West

March 22, 2020

Hi Rio,

Yes, your friend should be able to get the flight and the baggage fees refunded back as a travel credit good for one year from the issue date.

what is the limit on checked bags from nyc to peru?

Jarrod West

March 31, 2020

Hi Rosalinda,

All checked bags must adhere to a max weight of 50 pounds (23 kg); must adhere to max linear dimensions per bag up to 62 linear inches (158 cm). The charge for a checked bag for Blue Basic and Blue fares is $35 for the first bag, $45 for a second bag, and $150 for any subsequent bags. If you’ve purchased a Blue Plus or Mint fare then the first checked bag is free.

Jarrod West

April 14, 2020

Hi Kaitlyn,

As long as the tote fits the JetBlue baggage size and weight limits then yes that should be fine.

Jarrod West

September 08, 2020

Hi Henry,

As long as you still pay the taxes and fees of your flight with the JetBlue Plus card then yes you will still receive the baggage benefit.

I booked my Jetblue Mint ticket a few days ago. I called JetBlue customer service and the lady said the Mint weight limit is up to 70lbs. Is it 50lbs or 70lbs?

Jarrod West

September 14, 2020

Hi Lindsey,

Mint customers checked bags can weigh up to 70 pounds. I’ve clarified that fact in our post. Thanks for reading!

Can mosaic JetBlue members carry up to 70 pounds per checked bag on domestic flights and international?

Jarrod West

October 21, 2021

Hi Rosemary,

The baggage limit for Mosaic members is still 50 pounds. You only receive the 70 pound limit if you are flying Mint. Safe travels!

What is the cost of a golf bag?

Catherine Luther

January 10, 2021

Hi Richard,

Golf bags can be checked as a piece of regular luggage, with the cost depending on the fare type booked (see the table within this article).

Cristina Dumont

January 10, 2021

I have a JetBlue Plus card and I know I have a free checked bag. I got this card because my daughter travels a lot by herself. However, I just found out that even using the JetBlue plus credit card to buy the ticket for her, I still got charged $35 for her first bag as I was not going on the flight with her. This is very upsetting. I want to cancel my card as I just got the card for free bags when she travels. I’m so upset at JetBlue.

Jarrod West

January 11, 2021

Hi Cristina,

I’m sorry for your frustration here. To cancel your card you just need to dial the customer service number on the back of the card and they can take care of it for you.

What’s the liquid size you can carry on the plane for items like hand sanitizer?

Christine Krzyszton

February 01, 2021

Hi John. No greater than 3.4 oz. Also, liquids must be in a quart size bag. There is an exception for medication.

Ruth Leon

February 04, 2021

I am traveling to Ecuador and have 2 checked bags. Can I add a 3rd check bag?

Jarrod West

February 04, 2021

Hi Ruth,

You can, but the fee for doing so should be $150.

Julia

February 27, 2021

Does basic blue on JetBlue website let you bring a carry on?

Catherine Luther

February 28, 2021

Hi Julia,

Blue Basic fares purchased on or after February 25, 2021, for travel from July 20, 2021, will only receive 1 personal item to be stowed underneath the seat (and no standard carry-on bag).

Natoya

April 04, 2021

Hi,
I am not sure if I understand the no carry-on policy. I booked my flight today and will travel on the 11th of July. Does this mean I am not allowed a carry-on if I book with basic blue?

Jarrod West

April 06, 2021

Hi Natoya,

You will be allowed to bring a carry-on as that change does not take effect until flights departing after July 20, 2021.

Nell

April 28, 2021

I am considering bringing a cooler with frozen items as a checked in bag. Will that be a $35 fee if less than 50 lbs? Also, what is the correct way to bring it? Am I allowed to duct tape it shut so it does not open in transit?

Catherine Luther

April 30, 2021

Hi Nell,

You should be able to check the item for the cost of a checked bag under 50 lbs. You’ll need to contact the airline for advice on packing.

JP

May 06, 2021

I purchased my blue basic ticket on January 8th 2021, and I’m flying on May 21st, 2021. what carry-on policy applies to me? Carry on, no carry on? Carry on and personal item? Carry on and no personal item? It’s confusing, please help!

Jarrod West

May 07, 2021

Hi JP,

The new baggage policies do not take effect until July 20th, 2021, so you should be able to bring 1 personal item and 1 carry on bag for free on your flight.

John

May 14, 2021

JetBlue Plus allows for a checked baggage even on Blue Basic fares. Will it allow for carry-ons after July 20th 2021?

Jarrod West

May 14, 2021

Hi John,

After July 20th, passengers will need to pay for a carry-on bag if they’re traveling on a Blue Basic fare.

John

May 19, 2021

So one would be able to check their carry-on for free but wouldn’t be able to carry it on? Seems unusual?

Jarrod West

May 21, 2021

Hi John,

You would still need to pay to check a carry-on bag on a Blue Basic fare, as JetBlue charges checked baggage fees on Blue Basic tickets. You can see here on the JetBlue website.

Lily

May 19, 2021

I am booking a Blue Basic flight with JetBlue for June 25-30th. If I’m understanding correctly, this allows me to have 1 personal item and 1 carry-on, correct? Is there a chance that I will not be able to store my carry-on bag and be forced to check it if there isn’t any space since I will be one of the last to board? If so, do you have any idea how often this happens/if it is possible to gate-check it if needed? Thanks!

Jarrod West

May 19, 2021

Hi Lily,

You are correct, you should be able to bring 1 personal item and 1 carry-on bag. If by the time you board, there is no space available in the overhead bins, they will gate check your carry-on bag for you. Safe travels!

Cathy

June 08, 2021

I am traveling the week of June 10th and I purchased my Blue Basic ticket on March 8th. Will I be able to bring 1 personal and 1 carry-on without being charged fees?

Jarrod West

June 08, 2021

Hi Cathy,

Yes, you will be able to. Safe travels!

Jenny

June 16, 2021

I am traveling from June 20th to July 24 and purchased a Blue Basic ticket, will I be able to bring 1 personal and carry-on without being charged fees?

Jarrod West

June 16, 2021

Hi Jenny,

For your flight on June 20th you will be able to bring both items without being charged a fee. But for your return flight, you will need to pay for your carry-on bag since it will be after July 20th.

Mai

June 16, 2021

How much can your carry-on and personal item weigh?

Jarrod West

June 16, 2021

Hi Mai,

JetBlue does not have a weight restriction for carry-on items but states that you should be able to lift them into the overhead compartment unassisted.

Dave

July 02, 2021

I’m on a Blue Basic fare that was purchased after Feb 25, 2021 and I will be traveling before July 20, 2021. Do you know if I am correct in assuming I can still bring on a standard carry on (+ personal item) at no extra cost? Policy is written in a confusing way. Thanks.

Jarrod West

July 07, 2021

Hi Dave,

Yes, you should still be able to bring a standard carry-on bag and personal item at no extra cost.

Yonnette Alder

July 23, 2021

I just booked my ticket and I am a little confused about the carry-on policy. I know you are only allowed 1 personal item and no carry-on. But what is the size limit of your personal item? I have a small suitcase of about 17×13, can I bring this as my personal item?

Jarrod West

July 23, 2021

Hi Yonnette,

The size restriction for JetBlue personal items is 17 x 13 x 8 inches (43.2 cm x 33 x (20.32 cm). As long as the item will fit underneath the seat in front of you it should be fine.

Imran

July 28, 2021

I am traveling to LA from NY on Aug 9th 2021. Do I have to pay for carry-on bags. I heard I would have if I had my flight on Aug 10th or after. Can someone please confirm? By the way I have basic blue tickets.

Jarrod West

July 29, 2021

Hi Imran,

If you purchased your ticket after February 25, 2021, then yes you would have to pay for your carry-on bag.

Calesa Bailey

August 23, 2021

I’m traveling to Jamaica. I have 3 checked bags, how much will I need to pay for all 3?

Jarrod West

August 23, 2021

Hi Calesa,

You should need to pay $35 for your first bag, $45 for your second bag, and $150 for your third bag, for a total of $230 for all 3 bags. Safe travels!

Angella

August 30, 2021

I am returning from the US soon. I only have cash to pay for my baggage fees. What can I do? I have no credit card or debit card.

Jarrod West

August 30, 2021

Hi Angella,

JetBlue will only accept a credit card or debit card for baggage fees. You might want to contact their customer service team to see if they can suggest another option for you. Best of luck!

Briggitte Zamora

September 14, 2021

Katie Seemann

September 15, 2021

Hi Briggitte,
You can check your stroller free of charge when flying on JetBlue. Have a great trip!

mark

September 15, 2021

I have a JetBlue credit card in which I was awarded a free checked bag. My suitcase is carry on size, if I try and just carry it on and not check it, how will they know I am not allowed to?

Jarrod West

September 16, 2021

Hi Mark,

As long as you have not booked a JetBlue basic ticket, you should already be permitted to bring a carry-on bag.

Mark

September 20, 2021

It is a basic ticket, they are giving me a free checked bag not a carry on. If I show up to the gate with my carry and I didn’t check a bag, how will they know?

Jarrod West

September 20, 2021

Hi Mark,

It should show on your boarding pass that you have a checked bag, and not a carry-on bag. Of course, they might not say anything.

Renee

September 16, 2021

If I am using my TrueBlue points to purchase a flight, do I still get a free checked bag? I do have a Jetblue Plus credit card. Also, when using points to pay for a flight do I still accumulate new points for the new flight?

Jarrod West

September 16, 2021

Hi Renee,

You should still receive a free checked bag when you pay for your flight with points, but you will not earn new points on award flights.

Gerardo

September 20, 2021

I have an American Airlines Elite card, do I need to purchase a Blue basic or Blue plus in order to have one free bag?

Jarrod West

September 20, 2021

Hi Gerardo,

As far as I know, the American Airlines cards do not give you a free checked bag when flying with JetBlue.

Magita

October 01, 2021

I am flying from Tokyo to LA with a different airline, then from LA to FLL with Jetblue. I am a seafarer and most airlines give us additional baggage allowance. However, I’m not sure about Jetblue especially with its new policy on the carry-on bag.

Ark

October 06, 2021

How can I find out what tickets I have – Blue, Blue Extra or Blue Basic? As I understand, based on these categories, I am entitled or not entitled to a free carry on. On my ticket I do not see this information.

Jarrod West

October 07, 2021

Hi Ark,

If you log in to manage your booking on the JetBlue website or JetBlue mobile app you should be able to see what fare class you’ve booked.

Ena

November 04, 2021

I am traveling to Trinidad on February 2022, I am not sure with a blue ticket if I am allowed a carry-on and a free suitcase or will I have to pay for my suitcase?

Jarrod West

November 09, 2021

Hi Ena,

For a standard Blue ticket, you will be able to bring a carry-on for free, but you will have to pay $35 for a checked bag. Safe travels!

Shelley

November 05, 2021

Question: We are flying non-stop from Orlando to Reykjavik, Iceland. Our ticket class is Economy/Coach (B). What are the luggage restrictions? Additionally, my husband uses a CPAP machine. Is this considered a carry on?
Thank you!

Jarrod West

November 09, 2021

Hi Shelley,

You should be able to bring 1 personal item and 1 carry-on bag, unless your ticket states otherwise. Your husband’s CPAP machine should not be considered a carry-on since it is a medical device. Safe travels!

Esskay

January 18, 2022

I will be flying JetBlue on a Blue Plus fare from MCO-JFK, so I get the first checked bag free with the fare. I’m also a Barclays JetBlue Plus cardholder, so I get a free bag there as well. Can I ‘double up’ on checked bags? In other words, do I get one checked bag with the fare, plus one with the card, so two free bags?

Jarrod West

January 18, 2022

Hi Esskay,

Unfortunately, you cannot double up on the checked bag benefits.

Andrea

January 27, 2022

I have a an Oversized box 12 pounds, the outside measurement is 43inc/43 inch. 7 inch with.
It is not heavy but the box is quite big.
Would that be possible to ship it as an oversized luggage?

Jarrod West

January 27, 2022

Hi Andrea,

Yes, you should be able to ship that.

Ty

January 31, 2022

I am an AA Gold member and just purchased 6 tickets for my family to SXM in JetBlue Basic. Does everyone on my reservation get one free bag or just me? Thanks for any help you can offer as the website does not seem to address this issue.

Jarrod West

February 03, 2022

Hi Ty,

As far as I know, the checked baggage benefit should be limited to you alone.

Laz

April 29, 2022

Can I get 2 free checked bags if I have a JetBlue credit card and also book Blue Plus? They each say they come with one bag.

Jarrod West

April 29, 2022

Hi Laz,

The baggage benefits do not stack, unfortunately.

Joe

September 19, 2022

If I (holder of the JetBlue plus card) book a blue basic flight for someone else (paid for with said card), will they receive a free checked bag if I am NOT on the flight?

Jarrod West

September 20, 2022

Hi Joe,

Unfortunately not. The baggage benefit is tied to your JetBlue TrueBlue number, so if you aren’t traveling then the person whose ticket you bought would not receive a free checked bag.

cindy Hoffman

December 21, 2022

What liquids can I pack in a carry-on? Such as shampoo 8.75 oz and other things?

Christine Krzyszton

December 21, 2022

Hi Cindy. You are only allowed to bring liquids that are 3.4 oz/100 ml or less with you in your carry-on bag. Plus, all of the liquids must fit in 1 quart-size bag such as a zip-locked bag. You can bring full-sized liquid products, like the 8.75 oz shampoo you mentioned, in your checked bag.

Tom

May 08, 2023

I have the JetBlue plus card and already booked 2 tickets now my mom wants to go. I am guessing she won’t be able to get a free check in bag since it’s not on same itinerary. Is that correct?

Jarrod West

May 08, 2023

Hi Tom,

Yes, that would be correct.

Jason

June 05, 2023

Do I have to book my flight through the JetBlue website using my JetBlue card in order to receive the free checked bag or can I book through another website and pay with my JetBlue card and still receive the free checked bag?

Jarrod West

June 05, 2023

Hi Jason,

You do not have to book through the JetBlue website, but if do book through the website you’ll earn significantly more points: https://www.jetblue.com/trueblue/earning-points.

Martina

July 04, 2023

Hi I’ve a question, if my flight it’s at 3:55pm can I check my luggage in the morning like at 8/10 am?

Keri Stooksbury

July 05, 2023

Hi Martina – That probably depends on the operations at the specific airport you’re flying out of. I would suggest that you ask JetBlue directly.

Fatima

August 01, 2023

Jarrod West

August 01, 2023

Hi Fatima,

Yes, that should include a carry on.
