Would this be the same if I booked via Iberia Avios? Or do I need to transfer them to BA?

Hey Iliana!
Iberia and British Airways have different award charts. Unfortunately, Iberia awards start at 11,000 Avios, so you’ll need to transfer your Iberia Avios to British Airways before you can book any of the awards on this list. Note that your British Airways and Iberia accounts must be open for 90 days or longer before you can transfer.
Please check out our guide to Iberia Avios for more info!

Hey, thanks for this information. Do you think overall this is a good program to stick with? I have about 20,000 miles and before this article contemplated whether or not to continue with the rewards flight program because I feel like it’s more geared to frequent flyers. For example, I want to stay loyal to Avios program, but I have a pending trip where the cost of another airline is 50% lower ($600USD) than flying with AA/BA. I’m curious about what choice you’d make in this situation. I should say that the flight is extensive, (14,000 miles) which is why I am tempted to pay the extra. Thanks!

Hello! This boils down to personal preference: if you have a large redemption coming up and need the miles, paying extra might be worth it. Likewise if you’re chasing British Airways Executive Club status and need the tier points. However, in my personal opinion, $600 is better saved than spent on a similar ticket booked solely to earn mileage. Thanks for reaching out and best of luck with your decision!

So I just got 10k points. But you wrote a bible to explain something that should be very straightforward. The first line of the post would do it. We don’t have time to read massive articles on Avios points. Be clear. Thanks.

What a ridiculous comment. If you don’t want the detail, don’t read it. I found it very useful / interesting, so great thanks to the author.

Hi,
When looking at economy reward flights recently the fewest amount to use for a one-way flight from London to Paris for instance or London to Edinburgh is 9,250 one way.
Any idea on why these flights don’t follow the charts suggested above?
Thanks!

Hi Dalton,
Are the dates that you are searching for showing “Economy Off-peak” availability? If so, click “More pricing options” underneath the 9,250 Avios price and you should see multiple options to use fewer Avios.

I have been told by BA that I can use Avios points to pay for luggage but cant find out how many I need until I make a booking. Do you know how many are needed?

Hi Frances,
It likely depends on the route you are flying and how many bags you are bringing. I recommend contacting the BA customer service team and they should be able to assist you with this.
