Hey guys. You mention that you can stack existing hotel elite status with the fine hotels and resorts benefits that come along with having one of the mentioned cards (Amex Platinum etc). How is that possible given that you generally don’t get hotel elite benefits if you book through 3rd party website (e.g. amextravel.com) ? Am I missing something ? Thanks !

Hi Mark,
You’re correct in stating that elite benefits are generally not stackable. However, you can provide your elite status information on the date of your arrival, and depending on the check-in staff, they can decide to grant or deny you elite status benefits. The success of this tactic will vary depending on the people working at the front desk. Thanks for reading.

I simply emailed the hotel. Not only did they allow it, they added my Marriot ID rather than my wife’s, though the res was in my wife’s name and on her plat. I have Marriott Platinum and she has gold.

While the FS Jackson Hole is an outstanding property, I’d argue that the nearby Aman property (Amangani, another FHR property) is far superior.

If you have Diamond status with Hilton and have the Amex Platinum card, can you get a double upgrade on a Hilton property? Thanks for any reply.

Hi Jose,
In general, it depends on the property. Once you book your FHR stay with the Amex Platinum card, you should email the hotel you’re staying at to see if you can enjoy your Diamond elite benefits on top of your FHR benefits. They should give you a prompt reply that’ll help further!

I recently traveled to Vienna, AT and stayed at the Intercontinental. It might not be as luxurious as some of the hotels on this list, but it was plenty nice. I prepaid for the stay on the Amex portal to trigger my annual $200 Amex Plat FHR/HC credit, got upgraded to junior suite, used the property $100 credit on dinner for two and got free breakfast for two. The nightly rate including taxes is generally around $220 to $240. My stay was for two nights, but all of the above would have also worked for a one night stay. $20 to $40 for all that! It’s a nice win if anyone has a short stay coming up in Vienna.
