Have you ever been stuck in a meeting while those coveted concert tickets went on sale? Ever needed to send flowers to a loved one? Or maybe you’ve needed last-minute dinner reservations in an unfamiliar city? If so, consider the value you might find in the Platinum Card Concierge service.

Along with a long list of other valuable benefits, The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express offer a concierge service that is often overlooked.
Using the Platinum Card Concierge is like having an assistant. They can make reservations for you, send a last-minute gift, or research an upcoming travel destination.

Benefits of the Amex Platinum Card

Before focusing on the Platinum Card Concierge service, here’s a quick peek at some of the other benefits of the Amex Platinum card.

Hot Tip: Check to see if you’re eligible for a welcome bonus offer of up to 125k (or 150k) points with the Amex Platinum. The current public offer is 80,000 points. (This targeted offer was independently researched and may not be available to all applicants.)

Platinum Card Concierge Service

The Platinum Card Concierge promises to be a resource, day or night, for almost anything you can think of. Whether it’s tickets to a concert or a teddy bear for your significant other, they are ready to assist.

What Can the Platinum Card Concierge Do for You?

Let the Platinum Card Concierge help with dining reservations. Image Credit: American Express

The Platinum Card Concierge is there for you to help you with whatever you may need:

  • Use the concierge to book theater tickets to avoid some booking fees
  • Book tickets to a sold-out show
  • Reserve tables in otherwise booked restaurants
  • Request travel guides for any location
  • Send a last-minute gift or flowers to someone special
  • Get help planning an event
  • Research specific requests: restaurant with a patio, vegan restaurant in Toronto, wedding venue that can hold 1,000+ people
  • Search for a specialist: a contractor with great ratings, a pet groomer that will come to your home, a caterer that only uses organic food

While there is no cost to you for the Platinum Card Concierge services, you are responsible for any purchases, fees, and/or shipping charges you authorize to be charged.

After making a request, you will get all the requested information emailed to you, usually within 48 hours.

Remember that the concierge may not be able to help you with all requests — a restaurant may indeed be fully booked up or a concert at capacity. While you can certainly hope the concierge will help with your request (and many times they do), there are occasions where your request simply can’t be honored.

Don’t Confuse the Platinum Card Concierge With Amex Travel

American Express Travel and the Platinum Card Concierge are separate entities. So, if you need to book a flight, hotel, or rental car, contact Amex Travel. Otherwise, try out the Platinum Card Concierge.

It can get a little confusing when you are following the prompts on the phone. However, they can easily transfer you to the correct department if you end up in the wrong place.

You should note that if you have any requests dealing with travel, you should ask to speak with the travel department right away — the concierge team will defer travel requests, even those that are minor, to the folks who specifically handle travel.

This is not an attack in any way but I just want to share some of my experiences with amex platinum concierge services as they have not been great ones by any stretch of the imagination. 1. I planned a trip to mexico and I contacted concierge to provide me with a list of dining options and other attractions. Once they sent the list over it was a good thing that I took time to research the list myself because over half of the places on the list had gone out of business. No lie! So at the last min I now had to literally take time to find places actually open when I could have just did that myself earlier on. 2. (THIS IS A BIG ONE) I sent a major client a gift basket for their grand opening in another state. I specifically stated no fruit as my client for some odd reason literally hates fruit. I made this very clear to concierge services and they stated that they would have a photo of the basket sent over for approval BEFORE it was sent out and that they would handle everything. I specifically told them to make it heavy on the meat and cheese as well as chocolates. Guess what my client got? A fruit basket. Guess what I never got? A photo of the final basket for approval. This by far was the most costly mistake because this is business. One important thing in business is to make sure you listen to what your clients tell you. This made my company and I look like a total idiot. Of course I couldn’t get into the fact that amex basically ignored my instructions so I had to follow up with another basket and pretend that the fruit basket was a gag gift. All in all amex plat concierge sucks in a major way. I can only believe that the better part of their service is dedicated to black card members which is find but with the mistakes and lack of care they provide to plat customers they should scrap the service for plat and provide additional perks instead.

Hi Lena,
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with the Amex Concierge Service! Did they ever respond as to why the fruit basket was sent instead of what you asked for? I can imagine how frustrated you must have been.

Hi There! No, never! They said that they were sorry and that they would speak to their training team about the incident. Amex platinum has some great perks but their concierge (for me anyway) is definitely not one of them.

Hi Lena,
Wow, that’s really surprising. I hope this was an isolated incident and not a true reflection on the quality of the service. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

I am trying to cancel a trip for this Thursday. I have been calling since Sunday and I can’t get through. I tried Platinum Concierge and they can’t help. Please let me know what I can do to cancel this trip. Thanks, Laura

Hi Laura,

Did you make your booking through the Amex travel portal or directly with the airline?

Jennifer

Is there a way to assign a delegate so that person is able to contact AMEX Concierge on your behalf?

Hi Jennifer,

That is a great question! I’m not sure if that is possible. I recommend contacting the Amex Concierge team to see if it is possible to set that up.

FYI, the email address to submit an Amex Concierge request has changed. It is now platinum@concierge.americanexpress.com.

Hi Josh,

Thank you for pointing that out! I’ve just updated the post.

Concierge services are overhyped.
I think it is a misrepresentation to say they can secure reservations at restaurants that are booked or tickets to shows that are booked…they are no more successful than the individual as I have never had them assist with those as their reply is always that there is no availability! I would be curious what their success rate actually is for obtaining reservations above and beyond what we can do online ourselves.

WE BOOKED OUR FLIGHT TO PBI FROM EWR WITH OUR AADVANTAGE CARDS.
ARE WE ENTITLED TO A CHECKED BAG EACH? THE CONFIRMATION THAT I RECEIVED ONLINE DOES NOT SPECIFY THIS BUT WE WERE TOLD THAT WE WERE ENTITLED TO A CHECKED BAG EACH. LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING YOUR ANSWER. THANK YOU.

Hi Rose Ann. If you have a Citi AAdvantage World/World Elite Mastercard or Barclays Aviator cards linked to your AA frequent flyer number and are flying on an American Airlines domestic flight, you would each have a free checked bag. The number of traveling companions who receive a free checked bag varies by card.

There is always a 20 – 45min wait to get someone on the phone. With the Citi Prestige Concierge service you had the option to send an email and the wait times are much shorter. So far I have called 3 times and always hang up because I have to continue working

Platinum concierge has been nothing but headaches for me. Never able to get me anything that the general public can’t secure with a google search. Unresponsive over email, long wait times on the phone. The platinum card is great for many reasons but the concierge is not one of the reasons.

Platinum Concierge no longer allows email contact. It’s a phone call only. They will email you, but you cannot email them.

Hi Kathe,

Correct – it states that in our post under the Hot Tip.

Just off the phone with Platinum Concierge looking for an Arsenal ticket in London. After about five minutes, the agent, who was very nice, came back on the line saying they needed a login and password which they don’t have so there wasn’t anything they could do. I asked what she was talking about and was informed that she went to Google and looked up the match and found a website. On Google. So much for the mystery of the Platinum Concierge…It’s Google. Save yourself some time.

Overrated. I just contacted Amex Concierge Services to see if they can send someone to pick up my lost baggage in London Airport (LHR) and they said they did not do that at all. I don’t how the guy in this article was able to get someone to pick clothes and deliver to the bathroom for him to change.
