Hi Stephen – love your posts, thanks. I’ve had an old Citibank consumer credit card account for many years. 6 months ago I applied for and received their new Double Cash Card. I was approved and given a low credit limit ($7K). When I called customer service to have them transfer the higher limit from my other card they said it simply can’t be done. I was even willing to close the old account. I called back several times and they say there is no such thing as a “Credit Analyst Dept.” Do you have a number that bypasses the clueless call center? They suggested I try a credit limit increase but I doubt that would work since I assume they gave me all the limit I can get already. I don’t even need the total of the two accounts but the paltry $7K on the new one means I can barely buy two flights a month and its maxed out. This makes the new account pretty useless.

Hi Paul!
Thanks for reading!
Unfortunately, I don’t have a direct phone number for this department.
The success you’ll have with Citi is very finicky!

Hi! I just tried reallocating and is possible!
The issue with Citi is that they have representatives that are not US BAsed. When you call ask them to transfer you to domestic, once they do this, explain that you wish to reallocate your credit line and they’ll help you out by creating a request! Good luck!

Just tried to re-allocate a portion of my BoA business CC credit line to a BoA consumer CC. 2 different Reps told me it is not possible to move business to consumer.

Just tried credit limit transfer with Chase. As simple as ordering your favorite dish at your local Thai restaurant. I just stated that I would like to inquire transferring credit limits between 2 cards. She asked how much. As soon as I told her she said we can do that for you…5 seconds later….you credit limit on x is this and y is this. Is there anything else I can help you with? I let out a that’s it?!?! It was immediate too as I checked my limits in my app. Also I didn’t get a hard pull even though the transfer put the receiving card over the 35k limit. I don’t even think there was even a soft pull involved since it took seconds for her to complete.

Not only does Chase handle credit limit reallocation requests as if they’re the simplest thing to do on earth, but you can also submit the request from your online account via secure messaging.
I sent them such a request in July and they replied back the same day that the reallocation was complete. If you pursue this avenue I suggest being very precise, noting the accounts that you which to adjust, the amount to reallocate, and the credit limit to which each account should be set to once the reallocation is complete. Worked like a charm for me.

I did the credit move among chase personal cards, there was no hard credit pull above $35k. At one point, I was told I could do it up to $64k without a hard pull. But recently I raised one of my card to $73k and there was no hard pull. Just some data point fyi.
