Credit card issuers like Chase, American Express, and Citi have long offered statement credits in addition to their other benefits to attract customers. Traditionally, these credits have been travel-focused, featuring airline incidentals credits or broad travel credits.

With the continuing evolution of the credit card rewards landscape, there has been much flux in terms of benefits, especially as it relates to statement credits. Specifically, American Express has popularized the trend of offering shopping credits.

These shopping credits vary depending on which card you use, but this guide will be focusing on the Saks Fifth Avenue credit.

Saks Fifth Avenue is an American chain of luxury department stores. Its flagship store, located on 5th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, has attracted many loyal shoppers.

In this guide, we’ll be exploring the top things you can buy using your Saks credits that are a part of being a cardholder of The Platinum Card® from American Express. We’ll be looking at 3 key budget tiers: $50, $100, and $150. Saks has a great selection of gifts you can get for others, which is a great way to save cash on shopping!

Which Credit Cards Offer Saks Fifth Avenue Credits?

When talking about Saks Fifth Avenue credits, 2 cards offer this benefit: the Amex Platinum card and the American Express Platinum Card® for Schwab.

Hot Tip: One thing you should remember is that you can use multiple cards with your purchase. For example, if both you and your significant other have the Amex Platinum card, you can each swipe $50 in-store to get a $100 purchase for free, even if it’s a single item.

Let’s quickly touch on both of these cards.

Amex Platinum Card

Hot Tip: Check to see if you’re eligible for a welcome bonus offer of up to 125k (or 150k) points with the Amex Platinum. The current public offer is 80,000 points. (This targeted offer was independently researched and may not be available to all applicants.)

The Amex Platinum card is undoubtedly one of the best cards you can hold. With benefits and perks ranging from earning big on flights purchased directly with the airline or at Amex Travel to up to $200 annual airline incidentals fee credit to the best lounge access for a credit card, the benefits are nearly endless.

Let’s be clear: the Amex Platinum card is one of the best cards in the world for travel benefits. In addition to access to the amazing American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts, Amex Centurion Lounges, and even complimentary Hilton Honors Gold and Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status (upon enrollment), you’ll also get a $100 annual Saks Fifth Avenue credit.

The annual $100 Saks Fifth Avenue credit is split up into 2 $50 credits: one disbursed from January to June, the other from July to December. Remember that you must enroll to use this benefit.

Amex Schwab Platinum Card

Another option to get the $100 Saks Fifth Avenue credit is to get the Amex Schwab Platinum card. While this card is similar to the Amex Platinum card, you’ll enjoy a few other benefits if you maintain an eligible Schwab account.

Once you have a qualifying Schwab account, you can enjoy the same benefits as the Amex Platinum card, in addition to:

  • Schwab Appreciation Bonus: Receive a $100 card statement credit if your qualifying Schwab holdings are equal to or greater than $250,000 or receive a $200 card statement credit if your qualifying Schwab holdings are equal to or greater than $1,000,000 when measured following card account approval and annually thereafter.
  • Invest With Rewards: Earn Membership Rewards points that you can turn into deposits to your eligible Schwab account at a 1.1 cents per point valuation (for example, 60,000 points = $660).

Although it doesn’t mention the Saks credit on the application page, you’ll find the identical perk by looking at the card’s benefit terms. The structure is identical, in the sense that the $100 credit is split up into 2 equal $50 credits for January to June and then from July to December.

Hot Tip: For more information about the similarities and differences between the Amex Platinum card and the Amex Schwab Platinum card, check out our head-to-head matchup.

The best way to spend the credit is to buy Gift with Purchase beauty/skincare products twice a year. You get lots of free products that can be used as holiday gifts.

While reading the contents explaining this benefit, it states you must register first. Where and how do I first register for the Saks Fifth Ave $50 rebate?

Katie Seemann

January 18, 2022

Hi Marianne,
You don’t need to register for the Saks Fifth Avenue benefit. Just use your Amex Platinum card at the store and you’ll get a $50 credit twice a year (January-June and July-December).

Jim r

January 24, 2022

That’s not accurate. You first need to enroll under the card benefits section when you sign into your account.

Katie Seemann

January 24, 2022

Ahh, yes, you’re right! It’s been so long I’d forgotten you do need to enroll when you first get your card. The good news is you don’t need to re-enroll every six months. Thanks for correcting me!
