The Marriott Bonvoy rewards program has nearly 40 airline transfer partners — the most of any transferable rewards program in the world!

In this article, we lay out all of Marriott Bonvoy’s airline transfer partners and discuss how to transfer your points.

Earning Marriott Bonvoy Points

American Express and Chase both offer Marriott Bonvoy credit cards. Regardless of the Marriott Bonvoy card you select, you’ll enjoy complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Elite status.

To earn Marriott Bonvoy points from hotel stays, travel partners, shopping partners, and more, see our guide to earning lots of Marriott Bonvoy points. With the proper strategy, you can be on your way to earning 100,000+ Marriott Bonvoy points in 90 days!

Marriott Bonvoy Airline Transfer Partners

Of all the transferable points programs, Marriott Bonvoy easily provides the most airline transfer partners.

You can transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to most of these partners at a 3:1 ratio, but some transfer at a different rate — so be aware of that before submitting a transfer!

For most of the partners, 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points = 20,000 airline miles + 5,000 bonus miles.

This rate applies to almost all airlines, with a few exceptions:

  • Transfers to American AAdvantage, Avianca LifeMiles, Delta SkyMiles, and Korean SKYPASS will not earn the 5,000-point bonus.
  • United MileagePlus transfers earn 10,000 bonus points for each 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points transferred (60,000 Marriott points = 30,000 United miles)
  • Air New Zealand Airpoints transfer at 200:1, so 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points = 325 points (includes a 25-point bonus when you transfer 60,000 Marriott points to Air New Zealand)

The minimum transfer is 3,000 Marriott Bonvoy points and you can transfer up to 240,000 points per day.

Hot Tip: Although you can only transfer 240,000 points per day, you can transfer this maximum over consecutive days if you need more airline miles to book a redemption flight.

Redeeming Marriott Bonvoy Points

It’s no surprise that Marriott Bonvoy points are a favorite of many travelers.

Wherever you are traveling, Marriott Bonvoy points can provide amazing value when redeemed for hotel stays at one of its numerous brands or transferred to airlines.

Our guide to the best ways to use 10,000 (or fewer) Marriott Bonvoy points discusses alternate redemption options, including transferring points to another member, donating points to charity, or redeeming points for merchandise. We even have a guide for redeeming your points at luxury Marriott hotels!

Bottom Line: We recommend steering clear of merchandise and gift card redemptions and focusing on travel rewards to get a reasonable value from your points.

Final Thoughts

Marriott Bonvoy sets itself apart from other hotel loyalty programs like World of Hyatt and IHG One Rewards by offering great airline transfer options — by far the best offered by any hotel program.

With so much value to be had across nearly 40 airline partners and great award stay opportunities at its hotels, Marriott Bonvoy points are among the most valuable rewards points in the world.

“Air New Zealand Airpoints transfers at 200:1, so 60,000 Marriott points = 325 points”

Your math regarding the total Air New Zealand Airpoint dollars is correct. I just wanted to clarify to more folks would understand how Marriott determined the transfer ratio for Air New Zelaand. That’s all.

Actually Air New Zealand transfers at 1:200 per 3,000, which is 1:0.005 x 3,000 = 15 Airpoint dollars
All the Other Airlines except Air NZ and JetBlue transfer get you 1,000 Miles for every 3,000 Marriot Rewards Points & 1,000 Miles x 25 [25,000 Miles] for every 60,000 Marriot Points, the total Air NZ Airpoint dollars would be to take 15 Airpoint Dollars * 20 [300 AirPoint Dollars] for every 60,000 Marriot Points; 60,000 Marriot Points/300 Airpoint Dollars = 200 maintaining the 200:1 ratio for Air New Zealand. For every 60,000 Marriot Points you transfer to Air New Zealand, the writer is correct you’ll get 25 additional Airpoints to the 300 Airpoints making it 325 Airpoints.

@Mark Bandawat – thank you for the detailed expansion on the math. BTW, any special values with Airpoints for the Auckland-Niue route beyond the regular dollar cost per Airpoint? Any Star Alliance program that ever has availability? We’ve been checking for years on only ever seen one seat that may have been bookable via United MileagePlus (though a lot of phantom availability lately shows on connecting itineraries).

I transferred 240,000 Marriott points to ANA. 9/20 – 10/09 (19 days)

Alex Miller

Wow, thank you for the data Jasmine. We will research this further to see if it’s the “new normal” from transferring Marriott > ANA.

If you refer to 3.11.c of the terms and conditions 9https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/terms/default.mi#redeem) they are saying to allow 6 weeks for the transfer to be completed.

I initiated a transfer to Aeroplan (Air Canada) on Oct 14, 2018 and it’s not completed yet. I will respond with actual process date.

Hey Chris, we’d love to hear your results as we’ve found what they state in their T&C’s can be vastly different to reality. In other words, if it only takes 5-6 days vs the 6 weeks posted, we definitely want to let people know as it could mean the difference between trying to book a ticket or not. Interested to hear your outcome. Cheers!

So transferred 60k Bonvoy points on 7/13 and they showed up, with the bonus, within 48 hours. Transferred 70k a few days later, 7/17 to redeem for upgrades on Cathay, still haven’t gone through and we leave tonight. Based on other blog posts I have little hope of resolving the issue with Bonvoy. Marriott says allow up to six weeks but their inconsistency across the board makes me reluctant to trust anything they promise.

Chris,
Can you update on how long it took for your spg/marriott points to reach Aeroplan?
I’ve been impatiently waiting for a transfer to book my return airline ticket for mid Jan (we already booked the sweetest departure possible on Swiss Air!). 😉
Thanks in advance! Erika

I thought I’d share my experience with Aeroflot Bonus since you don’t currently show transfer times in your chart.

Transferred 120,000 Marriott points to Aeroflot Bonus on Sunday October 21, 2018.
Posted 50,000 miles to Aeroflot Bonus on Thursday, November 8, 2018.

Miles were posted in two transactions:
Oct 20: 10,000 miles (transfer bonus)
Oct 21: 40,000 miles (base transfer)

Thank you so much Chris for sharing this info!

I am looking into using points for an upgrade from Aeroflot premium economy to business. If I transfer points from Chase Ultimate Rewards to Marriott, can I then transfer from Marriott to Aeroflot? Or are points transferred from Chase to Marriott then restricted for Marriott use? I wish Aeroflot was a direct transfer partner within Chase Ultimate Rewards but it’s not.

Alex Miller

January 23, 2019

Hi Philip,

Yes, you can certainly transfer from Chase Ultimate Rewards to Marriott, and then Marriott to any of their airline transfer partners (including Aeroflot!). Here’s a list for you: /travel/hotels/marriott-transfer-partners/#Marriott-Airline-Transfer-Partners

There are SO many ways to use Marriott points and you might find these 2 posts handy as well to give you lots of ideas:

Best way to keep AS miles alive? I just tweeted them, they added 1 mile to my account…problem solved

James Larounis

February 26, 2019

Hi Robert! That’s a fantastic solution. The folks at Alaska Airways are usually really great about finding some ways to keep your miles alive, so glad they could help you do that in this instance!

March 01, 2019

Hi, I’ve transferred two times to Aegean. Not sure how long it took the first time but just did a transfer this week on Monday night and by Thursday they were in my account. So I’d say less than 5 days.

Asiana Club took a couple weeks from Marriott but the bonus miles haven’t posted on Asiana yet.

Alex Miller

March 23, 2019

Enrico – thank you for the data point.

Alessandro

I transferred some points to JAL more than 6 weeks ago, still no sign of the miles…before with SPG was a very easy operation, now it’s a nightmare.

Alex Miller

March 30, 2019

Wow Alessandro, that’s WAY too long and I’m sorry to hear about that. If you haven’t already, I’d call Marriott and get them to look into this ASAP.

April Johnson

July 29, 2019

Do you have any data points on how long bonus points on Marriott take to post after meeting the spending requirement?

Jarrod West

July 30, 2019

Hi April,

Your points should post after the statement in which you met the spend requirement closes. Thanks for reading!

Transferred 96k points from Marriott to TAP Portugal 10 days ago. TAP says they haven’t received them. In my opinion, these delays kind of makes Marriott airline transfers useless with respect to specific award flights. And the delays seem to vary greatly from airline to airline too. Since their large number of airline partners is the reason I use the Marriott credit card, I think that I’m going to stop earning points with them and just pick an airline to prospectively transfer all the points to and hope for the best.

Andrew Kunesh

August 21, 2019

Hi Donald, we’ve also seen reports of certain Marriott transfers taking longer than the standard 1-2 days. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to predict when this happens, and we completely understand your frustration. We recommend staying in communication with Marriott to monitor the situation. Thanks and best of luck!

Matt

September 07, 2019

Donald – Have you gotten an update? We tried to transfer on August 14 and still haven’t gotten them. I did a United transfer and it only took a few days. I have a TAP flight that I need to book for 10/20 and am getting really annoyed that I haven’t received yet. I’ve submitted emails through the website with no response. I guess I will try calling next. We tried contacting Bonvoy and they said they couldn’t do anything and to go to TAP.

Stefanie

If I convert Marriott points to Delta miles, will these converted miles count as MQM to help me meet the mileage criteria for Silver? I have the dollar amounts necessary for MQD but need more miles to get to Silver.

Jarrod West

October 11, 2019

Hi Stefanie,

No, those converted miles will not count towards MQM qualification. The only way to earn MQMs is through flying or with one of the co-branded Delta Amex cards that offer the status boost benefit.

Thanks for reading!

When compared to any other credit card point/mile system the Marriott miles are next to worthless. I regret opening this card. The points portal website is almost as worthless as the points themselves (our server is having trouble. please try again). Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this card.

James R

October 17, 2019

I transferred 120k Bonvoy points to Virgin Atlantic’s Flying club, but contrary to most travel site’s indication, the transfer still hasn’t gone through after six days.
Their customer service told me yesterday that it can take up to ten days.

I read another person said she waited like five weeks due to some internal problem Marriott had. Hopefully no one else will have this problem.

Chris

April 11, 2020

Most sites I’m seeing say transferring Marriott BonVoy points to Delta miles takes less than 24 hours. It’s been 24 hours but nothing. What are you seeing at this time for a turnaround?

Christine Krzyszton

April 12, 2020

Hi Chris. As we mentioned in the article, you can expect the process to take 2 days. However, Marriott Rewards states that the official timeframe for transfers is “In most cases, Miles will be posted to your account within one (1) week.” So somewhere between the 2 timeframes might be realistic.

Stefan

June 30, 2021

The 4 days to ANA are definitely outdated. Two weeks now and no sign of the miles.

Jarrod West

July 07, 2021

Hi Stefan,

That is definitely unusually long. Have you followed up with Marriott about this?

Andrea

April 25, 2022

Is it possible to transfer points from Amex to Marriott and then from Marriott to American? Has anyone sone that? Trying to get best bang/mile for Qsuites to Cairo…..
Thanks!

Chris Hassan

April 25, 2022

Hi Andrea,

Yes, that is possible. However, unless there are some good bonuses it may not be a very good deal. Consider sending your American Express MR points to British Airways Avios to book Qsuites. There is currently a 40% bonus right now as well!

Data point;

Bonvoy to Aeroplan points transfer in less than 24 hours. I did it yesterday and it showed up on Aeroplan today

PWG

February 14, 2023

Well, 8 days has passed since my Marriott points transfer was made to Qatar Airways, and still, no credit posted at QR.
I contacted the Mariott Ambassador team to check on it, as it seems like there is a technical issue. I assume that Marriott did not adjust their IT / data base after Qatar Airways adopted BA’s Avios for mileage purposes.
