Comenity Bank is a major credit card company that has 92 credit programs for many top U.S. retail stores, focusing heavily on store-branded credit cards.

While Comenity Bank isn’t a household name like some other credit card companies, they have more than 50 million cardholders.

Cards issued by Comenity Bank are generally easy to get approved for even if your credit score is lower than average. Easy approval can be attractive if you’re working on building or repairing your credit.

You can obtain some Comenity Bank cards without a hard pull on your credit report, which significantly increases your chances of approval. Known as the shopping cart trick, a credit card offer from Comenity Bank may pop up with an incentive to apply as you’re online shopping with a retailer partnered with the bank.

The trick to getting the offer is to not opt out of promotional credit card offers and ensure that your pop-up blocker is turned off. If the offer requires you to input your full Social Security number, it will likely result in a hard pull on your credit report. If it asks for just the last 4 digits, it is less likely to result in a hard pull.

Comenity Bank offers lots of different credit cards, mostly stored-branded cards, that may offer easy approvals without a hard pull on your credit report using the shopping cart trick.

While Comenity Bank’s cards don’t typically offer large sign-up bonuses, they tailor their rewards programs and bonuses specifically for the customers of their retail partners. If they issue a card for a store you shop at frequently, their credit card rewards program is worth the look.

Note: Many of these cards charge extremely high interest rates. If 0% interest credit cards for up to 15 months are of interest to you, we’ve compiled a list of cards which are generally more rewarding than the store credit cards listed below. There are also options for fast card approvals that also have superior rewards, if time is a factor.

Comenity Bank’s Credit Cards

Most credit cards offered by Comenity Bank are designed for frequent shoppers at targeted stores. Most of these cards are tied to store-specific rewards programs but provide extra benefits for using the card and rewards program perks for regular shoppers.

Best Comenity Bank Credit Cards

Comenity offers so many different credit cards, but we’ve narrowed it down to the top 2 cards that offer the best rewards for travelers and everyday spenders.

Orbitz Rewards Visa Card

The Orbitz Rewards Visa Card is a good choice for a travel-earning credit card. This card is linked with Orbitz Rewards Orbucks, which you can redeem for $1 per Orbuck for hotel bookings on Orbitz.

This card earns a bonus 5% on all Orbitz bookings, which can earn up to 10% back in rewards. All Orbitz Rewards members earn 1% for flights booked on Orbitz, but using this card adds an extra 5% to earn 6% back on airfare booked on Orbitz.

Hotels have the highest earning rates, raking in 10% in Orbucks when you use the card to book hotels on the Orbitz mobile app and 8% when booking on a desktop. These earning rates make the Orbitz Rewards Visa Card great to use for hotels where you can’t earn hotel branded points.

If you can’t live without hotel loyalty status, this card gives you instant Orbitz Gold status. This status offers free Wi-Fi, breakfast, and waived resort fees at select VIP Hotels.

Orbitz automatically enrolls cardholders in their dining rewards program, which gives 7% back on select restaurants, bars, and nightclubs.

This card earns 2% back in Orbucks on all other purchases and offers a $100 statement credit when you spend $1,500 in the first 90 days of account opening.

Bottom Line: The earnings potential with no annual fee makes the Orbitz Rewards Visa Card a great choice for travelers who aren’t loyal to hotel brands.

Comenity Bank’s Most Popular Credit Cards

Now that we’ve highlighted the top 3 credit cards from Comenity Bank, let’s take a look at some of the other popular cards they offer to see if your favorite store made the list.

Ann Taylor Mastercard

Ann Taylor is a women’s retail store under the Ann Inc. umbrella of stores, which includes LOFT, Ann Taylor Factory Store, LOFT Outlet, and Lou & Grey.

The Ann Taylor Mastercard earns 5 rewards points per dollar spent with Ann Inc. stores. For every 2,000 rewards points or $400 spent online or in-store, you’ll get rewarded with a $20 rewards card (5% back).

Your first purchase made outside the Ann Inc. family will also trigger a $20 rewards card. Use this card at grocery stores and gas stations to earn 2 rewards points per dollar spent.

You will earn 15% off your first purchase if you open your account in-store or online at any Ann Taylor or LOFT store and 15% off purchases made on the first Tuesday of the month at those same locations. To top it off, you’ll receive a $15 birthday gift each year.

Bealls Florida Credit Card

Bealls is a department store founded in Flordia. It has expanded to include Bealls Outlet Stores and a specialty store, Bunulu.

The Bealls Florida card earns 1 point per dollar spent in the Bealls Florida Rewards Program. For every 200 points you earn, you earn a $10 reward, which comes out to 5% back.

You can shop online and receive free standard shipping when using your card. Cardholders will earn Gold Customer status after spending $500 or more in a year, which offers more benefits for shopping at Bealls. You’ll also earn a birthday bonus.

Big Lots Credit Card

The Big Lots Card doesn’t come with a rewards program, and it has no annual fee. The card does come with a pretty high interest rate, but regularly offers special promotional financing.

Big Lots promotional financing options can include waived or deferred interest plans, lower APR rates, and lower payments. Be aware of the deadline for deferred interest options, as you must pay the balance in full at the end of your plan or all the interest waived during the promotional period will be applied.

BrylaneHome Platinum Card

BrylaneHome is a home goods store, selling home decor and indoor and outdoor furniture. The BrylaneHome Platinum Card is tied to the BrylaneHome rewards program and earns 2 points per dollar spent at all FULLBEAUTY brands, which include BrylaneHome, Woman Within, and Roaman’s.

For every 400 points earned, you receive a $10 reward certificate (5% back). You’ll receive a 20% certificate on your birthday and earn double points on every order in your birthday month. This card offers a buy now, pay later option and gives you free shipping on 4 orders over $99 per year.

Buckle Credit Card

Buckle is a clothing store for men and women, selling brand-name clothes, footwear, and accessories as well as items from the Buckle private line.

The Buckle Credit Card offers 10% off your first purchase, but only earns 1 point per dollar spent in their rewards program. For every 300 points earned in select earning periods, you earn a $10 B-Rewards card that expires within 5-7 weeks depending on your status.

Catherines Credit Card

Catherines is a plus-size clothing store for women. The Catherines Credit Card offers bonus credit discount days throughout the year, a special coupon on your birthday, and additional bonus offers in your statement.

Cardholders get access to cardholder-only previews of new collections and can use the card’s app! Catherines has a $25 yearly membership rewards program you can use to save an additional 10% off every purchase.

David’s Bridal Credit Card

David’s Bridal is the largest U.S. bridal store chain specializing in wedding gowns, prom dresses, and other formal wear. The David’s Bridal Credit Card offers advance notice of sales and special offers, including previews and early access to new seasonal looks.

This card normally comes with a very high interest rate, but can offer special financing options to help reduce that cost. Plus, it comes with no annual fee.

Gamestop Credit Card

Gamestop is a popular video game store with locations worldwide. In addition to games, the store sells electronics and wireless services. The Gamestop Credit Card offers a signup bonus of 5,000 points (15,000 if you’re a PowerUp Rewards Pro member) after your first purchase.

You earn 10 points per dollar spent and can redeem these points for reward certificates in $5, $10, and $15 increments.

The PowerUp Rewards Pro membership is $14.99 annually and offers exclusive discounts and promotional offers to help you save and earn more points.

Gordmans Credit Card

Gordmans is a chain of discount department stores located throughout the Midwest. The Gordmans Credit Card offers 10% off your first purchase using the card and special monthly discounts and coupons.

There are no membership or annual fees, and you get advance notice of special events and promotions.

Hot Topic Credit Card

Hot Topic specializes in music and pop culture fashion. The Hot Topic Guest List Credit Card offers 15% off your first purchase and exclusive offers for Guest List members. Cardmembers will also receive two “$20-off” $50 shopping pass each year.

Roaman’s Credit Card

Roaman’s is a plus-sized fashion retail store in the FULLBEAUTY brand along with Brylanehome. The Roaman’s Credit Card comes with the same exact benefits as the Brylanehome Platinum Card, which earns $10 rewards for every 400 points, special birthday offers, and 4 free shipping promotions annually.

Torrid Credit Card

Torrid, formerly owned by Hot Topic, is a fashion store specializing in women’s plus-sized clothing. The Torrid Credit Card beats the credit card offered by Hot Topic, giving you a $20 welcome offer and 15% off your first purchase. This card shares 2 30% off passes each year, which could offer a significant dollar discount depending on how much you spend.

Victoria’s Secret Angel Credit Card

Victoria’s Secret is an American designer of women’s premium lingerie, womenswear, and beauty products. The Victoria’s Secret Angel Credit Card is tied to their rewards program, which offers a $10 or $15 reward for every 250 points earned. You will earn 1 point per dollar spent on all Victoria’s Secret purchases.

This card offers 3x points on all eligible bra purchases, an annual birthday gift and provides insider access and invitations to events throughout the year. You will receive exclusive reward offers just for cardmembers and free shipping on all orders that include bras when using the JUST4ANGELS promo code and your Victoria’s Secret Angel Credit Card.

Wayfair Credit Card

Wayfair is an e-commerce retailer that sells furniture and other home goods. You can use the Wayfair card at Wayfair and the Wayfair family of brands, including Joss & Main, AllModern, Birch Lane, and Perigold.

In terms of cardholder benefits, you can shop online and receive free standard shipping any time you use your card. You can also earn an introductory offer for $40 off your first order when you spend over $250 (without taking part in the special financing promotion). Cardmembers can choose between earning 3% back in rewards or taking advantage of special financing.

If payments are missed, this card does come with the potential for high fees due to the high APR and deferred interest, but if you pay off your balance during the promotional time period, this card could be a good choice for those with fair credit and above. The Wayfair Credit Card doesn’t have an annual fee.

Comenity Bank Cards with Easy Approval

The Comenity Bank credit cards with the highest rate of approval are those that can be applied using the shopping cart trick. Again, this trick occurs when a credit card offer will pop up as you shop online with certain stores. It does not require you to enter your full Social Security number in the application process, which will not result in a hard pull on your credit report.

Being approved for a credit card will add a new account to your credit report, but using this method will increase your chances of being approved.

The most popular store for using the shopping cart trick is Victoria’s Secret. If you have a specific card you want, it’s worth trying the shopping cart trick a few times to see if it works for that particular store. This trick has also been known to work at Buckle and Express.

Easy Credit Cards To Get (Bad or No Credit)

Credit One Bank® Platinum Visa® for Rebuilding Credit - Get 1% cash back rewards on eligible gas, grocery purchases and mobile phone, internet, cable and satellite TV services, terms apply. Poor to Fair Credit Recommended (300+ credit score).
Indigo® Mastercard® - Pre-qualification available with no impact to your credit score. Previous bankruptcy is OK. Poor to Fair Credit Recommended (300+ credit score).

Final Thoughts

Comenity Bank offers a lot in terms of quantity, with a wide range of store-branded cards specifically targeting and benefiting loyal retail customers. The rewards offered by these cards don’t come close to the value that popular travel rewards credit cards provide, but they can provide value if you can utilize their specific reward programs.

The best thing about Comenity Bank is their credit cards generally offer easy approvals. Easy approvals can help people working on rebuilding their credit, or just getting started in building their credit. The shopping cart trick can be used to avoid additional hard pulls on your credit when you apply for additional credit cards.

I tried this shopping cart trick and had the pre-approved pop-up for Victoria’s Secret, Ann Taylor, and J Crew. I filled out my info using only the last 4 digits of my Social Security number. A few moments later I received an alert that J Crew had done a hard inquiry. I am a bit upset. I assumed that with a pre-approval and only being asked for the last 4 digits of SSN that it would have been a soft inquiry like Victoria’s Secret and the Ann Taylor. So unless something is wrong here, I’d just like people to be aware that there might be a hard inquiry. Does anyone know or has anyone experienced a hard inquiry on a Comenity pre-approval?

Did you end up with a hardpull for VS and Ann Taylor? I know sometimes they take some time to show. From what I’ve read on MyFico forums, the Shopping Cart Trick doesn’t work anymore and people are reporting hard pulls from Victoria’s Secret and ever other Comenity card ever since October 2018. I just got a pre-approved offer yesterday and do not want to chance the hard pull.

The shopping trick DOES still work, at least for Overstock. My son just had the pre-approved popup a few days ago and accepted it and has already bought something with it.

I have several Comenity cards. I’ve never had a single issue. I pay my bill on time and magic no problems. Love Comenity!
Wayfair, overstock, old navy, with limits over 8000.

Two other easy cards to get are Sterling Jewelry and Jared cards, both have a pre-approval checker. I was pre-approved and applied for both. It came back instant approval for $1000 each. Highest card I have so far. Comenity has been helpful. I started out with Victoria secrets at $350 with shopping cart trick. Then Overstock for $250 and Wayfair for $500, all using the same shopping cart trick. They have helped get other store and bank cards. Also, Old Navy, Capital One, Indigo Bank and Merrick Bank with pre approval tools and they all approved after qualifying. Finally got Bank of America to show some love last week. Also Blaze MasterCard. And, last but not least, started with just under 600 credit score last fall up to 720 now. Got Harley Davidson approval last week for hubby for $23,000 with 3.9%. These cards can be great if you just pay on time and keep balances low.

So I’ve visited a lot of these sites and nothing is happening, no credit card pre-approval offer or nothing. I even tried the ones that people have said work for sure such as Wayfair, Overstock, J Crew, and nothing. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Do I click on the store’s name from the above list or go directly to their website?

Christine Krzyszton

April 13, 2019

Hi Senica. If you go to the store’s web site and select an item to purchase, you may receive an offer for the store’s credit card while you’re checking out. Most of the links in the article take you to the actual credit card application site which is different from the store’s web site where you would try to purchase an item.

Hello Wallace. Please be advised that we are not Comenity bank and have no affiliation with them. We are Upgraded Points, a blog specializing in providing credit card and travel-related resources. Comenity sucks! They never updated my address so I could receive their mail. I ended up not receiving my statement and then after two months they called and threatened me to pay. I paid it off immediately but it was reported to my credit score. I tried to cancel the same time I paid it off and of course, no one could close it out. I will not call it to deal with this company again. The card is now destroyed and I will never use this company again.

I have been completely happy with Comenity Bank. When I needed a credit increase on one of their cards from Petland I had no problems. The customer service representative was very helpful and gave me the increase I needed. I would recommend Comenity bank to anyone, as a matter of fact I have recommended and the people were very happy that I did. Thank you Comenity bank for being there when I needed you the most. You did what no one else would do for me since my credit is not great. Again, thank you.

June 28, 2019

I will have to say not to trust Comenity bank, especially if you are trying to build credit. After a year and 5 months with my payments on time, this bank decreased my credit limit. I’ve seen before that a store card can not increase your credit limit but the funny part here is that they did increase my limit and later decreased the limit without any notification or a letter with an explanation. I will advise to people who want to build their credit to look for better options

I applied for an Ulta credit card to get better perks. I have an excellent credit score. They required me to send in my drivers license social security card and utility bill. They have no legal right to do that. They sell your info. My identity was stolen from their employees at Comenity Capital bank 4 years ago. About a year ago my Victoria secret card was shut down because I had never ordered online before so they shut down my card that I deserved to have with the amount of money I spend there. What a bunch of sick people. They suck the life out of everyone and their pocketbooks. They ruin your credit. Really anyone out there that wants to be treated properly should try Chase bank. They’re the less of the two evils.

I have had this card for more than 10 years and Marathon decided not to deal with them any more. I am trying to pay off my balance and I have been making double payments. Last month, I had to make a payment of $25.00 not realizing they were asking for $27.00, I was then charged a $27.00 late fee. When I called, they told me there was nothing they could do, this is their policy. I’m very disappointed and would never do business with this bank again.

I applied for a card at Victoria’s Secret on Saturday, Aug 3, 2019 and to my disbelief I was turned down. I have excellent credit. My bank did just run a credit check on me as I am trying to refinance my home mortgage. This has only been last week they ran it but it was almost to 800.
They called from the store, but no one would tell them why. I thought I had a Comenity card, but I do not use it.
Could you please let me know why? Thank you.

Christine Krzyszton

August 06, 2019

Hi Gloria. Please be advised that we are not affiliated with Comenity or Victoria’s Secret so we would have no information on why your credit card application was denied. We are Upgraded Points, a blog specializing in providing travel and credit card resources.
You will receive a letter from Comenity explaining their decision, however, and then you can call the number included in the letter to find out the details.

Also appears that the Sony VISA isn’t listed either. I received an offer from them and the issuing bank was Comenity Bank. Chris
Comenity Credit Cards are way better than Synchrony Bank for sure, from my experience better than Discover. Using their cards have helped me build my credit. Although I believe the key is paying more than the balance due each time you make a payment. Also paying small payments in between payments if you owe a large balance to help pay the balance down faster. I hope that my comment helped.

Comenity Bank is the worst! Total scammers! It is all cool until you close an account with them. Never will I ever shop at Victoria’s Secret again. They need to close ALL stores worldwide!!!

Michelle Peters

July 03, 2020

If you think Comenity is bad, surely stay away from Synchrony. They are truly bad business for the creditors. They close accounts with zero balances and paid on time and pay more than the minimum payment. This just may be something that a lot of banks do, but again I must admit Synchrony is far worse than Comenity (and I have had both bank cards).

They screw your credit in the long run. Sure, they’re easy to get. I’ve been working hard to rebuild my credit. I just paid down $400 on a card to get it closer to paid off. They decreased my credit limit by exactly $400 which shot my credit score down 30 freaking points. After 6 months of early/on time payments and this is how I am ‘rewarded’? I will be paying off and canceling any Comenity credit cards I have within the next few months.

I received a bill dating back 11 years? I checked out all of their cards and I never did business with any of them. So I disputed the charge, but they did hopefully fix it. It’s just strange that after 11 years they send out this notification. If you get a bill like mine dispute it and check the credit bureaus. Something is fishy with them.

Iantha Jones

April 28, 2022

I will never use this bank or any of the credit cards associated with this bank as they have fraudulent activities. At the beginning of the year, I only owed $8.40. Somehow it got added up to $41.40. When I tried to pay with a credit card they would not accept it via phone, they would only accept a debit card or check. Stay away from these people, a bunch of scammers.

John

With any kind of credit card, don’t become late with a payment, or it will hunt you for 7 to 10 years. When you get your statement just pay your bill and you will be ahead of the game. Have a wonderful day.

COMENITY BANK IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST CREDIT CARD COMPANY TO WORK WITH! It use to be a fairly good credit card company and I had 5 cards with them. In March I never received a package from Ulta Lazership was supposed to deliver it. I had camera footage and there was no package delivered I asked to see a photo of Lazership leaving it on my porch well of course, they can’t provide me with that but they believe Lazership over a customer they had since 2010 that has never had a late payment and has spent thousands among thousands with them. They canceled my credit card and will not issue a refund so my credit will go to pooo before I pay for a package I never received!

Just got an account transferred to Comenity. They won’t give me my balance because they say I am not the primary account holder. If I have a separate account#, I should get a balance for that account. 2 days as a customer and already I see they will be horrible to deal with. I called and asked for a supervisor they said “no”!!! Consumer Protection Law Violation. Next step, I’m calling the corporate office and the Attorney General’s office to report them. They can sue me for the balance I was trying to pay by setting up direct payment with my bank. They outright suck.

Christine Krzyszton

November 04, 2022

Sorry for your frustration. Unfortunately, the primary account holder who added you to their account is responsible for the account and the one who must manage the account. Your separate account # is for managing purposes so that the primary account holder can determine which charges were made by you (and other authorized users).
