Can you earn base points shopping at hotel gift shops? I’ve seen some at Hyatt Regency and was curious.

Hi Jeff! In my experience, the hotel gift shops at which I’ve made purchases were owned by an outside entity and not the Hotel brand. In the rare case that the gift shop might let you charge the purchase to your room, you may earn points in that situation. Thanks for your question.

I wonder how their system to earn points works? I recently spent $8000 on a stay, but the eligible dollars spent to earn points was only $3000?

Hi Bongki,
If you can give me a little more information about your stay I would be happy to help you out! Was the $8,000 you spent entirely for the room you booked, or split amongst other charges? If you can provide a rough breakdown we can get it sorted out!

As a Portfolio HRC member, does converting HRC points to WOH points count as base points or bonus points?

Hi Michael,
Converting your HRC points to World of Hyatt will count as base points. Thanks for reading!

So any of the points that I get from regular spending(like grocery and gas) don’t get counted as “base point”. For example, if I spend 100k on grocery, do I not get globalist?

Hi Jay,
The points you earn will not count as “base points”, as you can only earn those during Hyatt stays. However, with the World of Hyatt card, you receive 2 elite night credits for every $5,000 you spend on the card. So if you spend $100k at the grocery store you would receive 40 elite night credits. When you add that along with the 5 elite credits you have for holding the card, you’d need just 15 more nights to reach Globalist status.
Thanks for reading!

Thanks for your reply. I have a follow-up question. Do I really get 2 nights credit for $5,000 spending? I thought that $5,000 is 5000 points and I can only stay at tier 1 hotel with 5,000 points? So I think 100K points mean 20 nights or it could be 5 nights if I stay at 20,000point tier hotel. Could you let me know if I am missing anything?
One more question, so the qualified night credit, it’s something that I can earn after I stay, right? Not like something I can earn when I earn points?
Thank you so much for your help!

Hi Jay,
You have award nights and elite night credits confused. Elite night credits are what your receive during your after your stay which count towards your elite status. For example, if you stay 3 nights in a Hyatt hotel you receive 3 elite night credits towards status qualification. With the World of Hyatt card, you can earn 2 elite night credits for every $5,000 you spend on the card, which is the equivalent to you having stayed 2 nights at a Hyatt hotel.
Given this, you could actually spend $140,000 on your World of Hyatt card and earn 56 elite night credits. Which, along with the 5 elite night credits you receive for having the card, would earn you Globalist status without needing to spend a single night in a Hyatt hotel. You would also receive at least 140,000 Hyatt points as well to use towards award nights.

Hello and thank you in advance :). When I purchase a gift card (grocery store, department store, restaurant etc.) with my Hyatt credit card, will this count as a purchase eligible to earn points, free night awards, and tier qualifying nights?
Sincerely,
Rachel

Hi Rachel,
Yes, purchasing a gift card will earn you bonus points, and will count towards the $5,000 tier for two qualifying nights and $15,000 tier for a free night award.

Are you able to earn base points WITHOUT staying at the hotel. Example having dinner at a Hyatt property but not staying there? I am trying to accumulate mass qty of base points to qualify for lifetime globalist.
Thanks!

Hi Charles,
To my knowledge, you are not able to earn base points for purchases at a Hyatt property if you are not staying there, including property restaurants.

From my experience, you earn base points from restaurant expense, even when not staying in the hotel.

Does “M” in the below question refer to BonVoy-Marriott in the reply?
– Does World of Hyatt offer status match with any other program?

If we host our wedding at a Hyatt Property and spend $30k on the reception, room, food, and beverage, will those we points be earned as Base Points?
Jarrod West

Hi Allison,
Yes, you will earn one Bonus Point per $1 for hosting an event at Hyatt. So in your case, you would earn 30,000 base points.

This is confusing. Is it Bonus points or Base Points?

Hi Allison,
Apologies as I see I mixed up the verbiage. You would earn 30,000 bonus points for your wedding, not base points.

Very detailed and thorough guide to many different avenues of earning reward points. Very helpful and it was nice to have direct links to the different affiliate programs because that definitely brings all the information together in a way that makes it easy to share !
