At the beginning of 2020, Chase and DoorDash unveiled a new partnership that conferred DoorDash benefits to select credit cardholders of Chase products. And while the partnership was slated to end in 2022, the benefits have been extended by a few years.

In fact, DoorDash recently started offering even more benefits to Chase cardholders, making it more attractive to use these perks.

So in this guide, we’ll walk you through the ins and outs of the Chase-DoorDash partnership. We’ll first provide an overview of the perks and DoorDash’s DashPass subscription; then, we’ll show you which cards are eligible for these benefits and how you can activate them.

What Is DashPass?

DoorDash is one of the largest online food ordering and delivery platforms in the U.S. It has a whopping 59% of market share,¹ and it’s available in virtually every city in the U.S.

In addition to delivery and pick-up from restaurants, you can use DoorDash for orders at convenience stores, liquor stores, pet stores, grocery stores, and even drugstores.

DoorDash offers a membership known as DashPass. While it normally costs $9.99 per month, frequent users of DoorDash will break even on this cost almost immediately.

For example, DashPass offers $0 delivery fees and lower service fees on orders over the minimum subtotal (usually around $12). This is the most useful benefit offered by DashPass, and when you consider that delivery fees are usually around $3 to $5 per order and service fees are substantial as well, DashPass pays for itself in just 2 orders.

In addition, DashPass offers a 5% credit back on pick-up orders, $0 delivery fees and lower service fees over the minimum subtotal on grocery deliveries (usually around $25), and exclusive, members-only promotions.

So with that being said, we’ll show you how to use Chase cards to enjoy benefits with DoorDash.

Hot Tip: If you typically consume higher-end food, your benefits can cross over to Caviar, which is also owned by DoorDash.

What DoorDash Benefits Are Available to Chase Cardholders?

Chase’s partnership with DoorDash has been extended through the end of 2024 (and potentially even longer), which is great news for food delivery lovers.

In this section, we’ll break down which benefits are available to Chase members, starting with those who hold Chase’s flagship credit cards.

DoorDash Benefits on the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card

Chase’s ultra-premium credit card, the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, boasts the best DoorDash benefits available from a Chase card, which makes total sense. With the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, you will get a complimentary DashPass membership through December 31, 2024.

In fact, this membership is guaranteed for at least 12 months, which means that if you wait until December 30, 2024, to activate it, your membership could be valid until the end of 2025!

In addition to a complimentary DashPass membership, those who hold the Chase Sapphire Reserve card (including authorized users) can enjoy a monthly $5 DoorDash credit, which is valid between April 1, 2022, and December 31, 2024. This credit is deposited into your DoorDash account every month, similar to the Uber Cash benefit offered to select Amex cardholders.

Credits expire after 3 months, which means you could spend $15 in credits in 1 order every 3 months, instead of $5 in credits every month. These credits add up to $60 per year.

In addition, this card boasts an incredible laundry list of benefits:

  • 10x Ultimate Rewards points on car rentals, hotels, and dining booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • 5x Ultimate Rewards points on airfare booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • 3x Ultimate Rewards points on all other travel
  • 3x Ultimate Rewards points on all other dining
  • 1x Ultimate Rewards points on all other purchases
  • $300 annual travel credit
  • Complimentary Priority Pass Select membership
  • TSA PreCheck/Global Entry/NEXUS statement credit

You’ll even find that this card offers elite status with National and Avis, as well as the best travel insurance from a credit card, and no foreign transaction fees.

DoorDash Benefits on the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

In a similar fashion to the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card offers its members a complimentary DoorDash DashPass membership through December 31, 2024.

The main difference between the DoorDash benefits on the Chase Sapphire Reserve card and the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is that those with the latter will not get the $5 monthly DoorDash credit.

But you might actually end up preferring to use the Chase Sapphire Preferred card because it could end up earning better rewards on your dining purchases than the Chase Sapphire Reserve card.

That’s because you’ll earn the same 3x points on dining purchases as the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, but the Chase Sapphire Preferred card also gets you a 10% annual points bonus!

Here are the earning categories:

  • 5x Ultimate Rewards points on all travel booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • 3x Ultimate Rewards points on all dining purchases, online grocery purchases, and select streaming services
  • 2x Ultimate Rewards points on all other travel worldwide
  • 1x Ultimate Rewards points on all other purchases

This card also has benefits such as a $50 annual credit on hotel stays booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards, fantastic travel insurance, no fees for authorized users, and no foreign transaction fees.

DoorDash Benefits on Chase Freedom Credit Cards

One of the most popular families of no-annual-fee Chase cards is the Freedom family of credit cards. Specifically, the Chase Freedom Unlimited® and Chase Freedom Flex℠ both offer DoorDash perks.

Both cards have access to 3 free months of DoorDash DashPass as long as you enroll between April 1, 2022, and December 31, 2024. After the 3-month period, you can get 9 additional months for half price ($4.99 per month).

Lastly, you can only use this benefit if you haven’t used a DoorDash benefit from a Chase credit card.

We’re huge fans of both the Freedom Unlimited card and the Freedom Flex card because of their extraordinary perks for no annual fee cards.

The Freedom Unlimited card earns:

  • 5% cash-back on travel booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • 3% cash-back on dining and at drugstores
  • 1.5% cash-back on all other purchases

The Freedom Flex card earns:

  • 5% cash-back in quarterly rotating bonus categories (up to $1,500 per quarter)
  • 5% cash-back on travel booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • 3% cash-back on dining and at drugstores
  • 1% cash-back on all other purchases

Simply put, the Freedom Unlimited card is superior for those who spend big on miscellaneous purchases, while the Freedom Flex card is great for those who like the idea of bonus categories that rotate every quarter.

Both of these cards have no annual fee and no additional fees for authorized users. They also come with purchase protection and other key credit card benefits.

DoorDash Benefits on Chase Co-branded Credit Cards

There are numerous co-branded credit cards issued by Chase that also offer DoorDash perks. To be specific, all of the cards in this section offer a 12-month complimentary DoorDash DashPass membership. Enrollment must be completed by December 31, 2024, and this benefit is only valid for those who have never used a Chase DashPass benefit.

The included co-branded credit cards from Chase are:

DoorDash Benefits on Other Chase Credit Cards

While you might think the list is complete, there are still a couple of Chase credit cards eligible to get DoorDash benefits.

If you’ve never activated your DashPass benefit before and have the Chase Slate Edge℠ or Chase Slate®, you can get 3 free months of DashPass membership as long as you enroll before December 31, 2024.

Lastly, after the 3-month period, you’ll be auto-enrolled at a 50% discount ($4.99 per month) in DashPass for another 9 months. After that, the membership will be auto-enrolled at full price.

How To Activate Chase DoorDash Benefits

Activating your DoorDash benefits from your Chase card is super easy. Just follow these steps:

  1. Download the DoorDash app (iOS, Android) and create an account (if you already have a DoorDash account, you can skip this step).
  2. Navigate to Account, then Add Payment Method. Then, click Credit/Debit Card.
  3. Enter your Chase card details, and you’ll see the option to activate your Chase card benefits.

Final Thoughts

Over the past few years, food delivery apps have exploded in popularity. In an effort to stay relevant and continue delivering value to credit card holders, banks have started offering food delivery-related benefits.

And due to the increased usage of food delivery apps from the COVID-19 pandemic, credit card issuers have kept offering these benefits, even as people resume eating out.

In fact, the Chase-DoorDash partnership that was slated to end in early 2022 was extended by more than 2 more years, which is clear evidence that this benefit is popular.

And in this case, building a partnership like this is a win-win-win situation for Chase, DoorDash, and the end consumer.

With the right credit cards, you can enjoy a complimentary DoorDash DashPass membership — and with the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, you’ll even get a $5 monthly DoorDash credit.

DoorDash DashPass is available even to holders of certain no-annual-fee cards, though this is usually limited to a 3-month trial period.
