American Airlines has announced its most significant expansion in Europe since 2019, with new routes to Barcelona (BCN), Copenhagen (CPH), Naples (NAP), Nice (NCE), and Venice (VCE) slated to be added to the carrier’s route network.
Three of these destinations are brand-new for American — but all of these new routes will help to expand the airline’s footprint in Europe, where it currently relies heavily on partner British Airways to provide connections through its base in London.

Along with the new route announcements, American shared that it will restart flying to some seasonal destinations — including Athens (ATH) and Dublin (DUB) — earlier next year. Also, it will increase some European routes from seasonal to year-round service.
Hot Tip:Don’t expect great award rates on these new routes. As with most new routes, award prices tend to be high and will settle over time.
This expansion for American Airlines is greatly welcomed, as the carrier has been slow to expand internationally in recent years. Copenhagen, Naples, and Nice are brand-new destinations for the airline and will serve as key launch points for those that wish to explore some of the most popular areas of Europe.
