What do you mean by collect nights?
Katie Seemann

“Collecting nights” just means booking hotels through Hotels.com. So, for every 10 nights you collect through Hotels.com (meaning for every 10 hotel nights booked through Hotels.com) you will earn 1 free night.

Can I use my points to book a room for someone else? I want to use reward points for my daughters holiday but don’t know if I can. Thank you!

Hi Mel, there is nothing in the Hotels.com Rewards terms and conditions that prohibits you from using a free night award stay for your daughter’s holiday. You can simply add her name as the guest when booking using your free night award. Thanks!

Does booking for someone else’s night, through your account, count towards your rewards points?

Hi John,
According to the Hotels.com T&C, you are not supposed to receive reward points for stays by other people, but your mileage may vary.

For the pay now option (only), you can get an additional 5% cash back using a Chase Ink Business Cash card to buy Hotels.com gift cards at Staples, then using those cards to pay for your hotel stay . You will still get the night(s) credited in the Hotel.com program.

Do Hotels.com initially show the final price you pay upon booking or they add like a 15% at the end like AirBnB?

Hi Jose,
Hotels.com will show you the nightly price of the room only. Then when you reach the booking/payment page they will add the taxes and fees, along with any applicable city taxes.

On Hotels.com when closing a room there are sometimes up to five different rates for what appears to be the same room type. Same cancellation, same payment options, and the same breakfast offer. There is also no mention of room location differences such as city view, Mountain View, beach view, or beachfront that would explain the rate disparity. However, the rates can be higher by as much as 33% or so. What is the difference?

Hi John,
I cannot say definitively without seeing the rates you’re looking at. But in my experience, higher rates are almost always associated with nicer room types, whether those be suites, extra beds, etc. If the hotel you’re looking at does not offer that I would either call the hotel to clarify, or just book whichever rate is cheapest if they all appear the same.

If I have a free night, can I save it for a future trip or do I have to use it the very next time I travel?

Hi Art. You just need to use it before the expiration date. Thanks for reading.

I have used Hotels.com for years due to the rewards program. I just used them my final time. I paid online on their website and the hotel double-billed me as well. It turns out, the hotel was charging 25% less than Hotels.com. I got the hotel to credit their charges, but when pressed about the pricing difference, Hotels.com told me that I was getting a deal at the time of the booking and that prices fluctuate. They didn’t look at the schedule to see that I booked the room less than 24 hours before we checked in. The worst part is when I reported the double-charge and pricing concerns to Hotels.com on live chat, their agent, literally hung up on me. I wasn’t being rude or anything! Super disappointed!

Can my husband and I use the same account to earn rewards or do we have to have separate accounts? If I book rooms for him as a guest, it sounds like my account won’t earn rewards.

Hi Kathy,
You would need to have separate accounts.
