Just a small add on:
Booking.com also has Loyalty program (Genius members) with several levels.
On Level 1, where you just have to register, you get up to 10% discounts on some (not all) accommodations, as well as other perks (late check out, free breakfast etc.) This bonuses depend on the place you book and other factors.
On Level 2, you get up to 15% discount on certain accommodations, and more frequent perks.
Also, all members get access to various deals where discounts can go over 30%. These are limited but can come quite handy.

Which credit cards should we use to maximize on the cc points for a hotel reservation made on booking.com?

Hi Ted,
To my knowledge, there are no credit cards that offer bonus points for Booking.com bookings, so you can use whatever credit card you’d like. I would probably opt for whichever of your cards offers the best travel protection.

Would they show up as a ‘Travel Purchase’ under Capital One or Chase’s $300 per year Travel Benefit?

I just booked a Ryan Air flight with them. Not all sites offer budget airlines.

My experience is mixed. I provided evidence to booking.com that another website offered the same room on the same day for 10 euros less. My room was prepaid, that means I already paid booking.com in advance, which then pays the hotel. Booking.com confirmed that I qualify for the price match guarantee if I can produce an invoice from the hotel – knowing that many hotels don’t issue an invoice if they are already paid by booking.com.
My view is that here the burden of proof of payment is with booking.com as I already paid them. Its just 10 euros, not the end of the world for me, but it destroys the brand reputation for me when a promise is made and then the company tries to wiggle its way out of responsibilities they themselves established.
