My question regarding arrival was not addressed. I wanted to know how much time it would take from landing to get bags in baggage claim, take a shuttle to the rental cars, and get out of the rental car parking lot?

Hi Kim,
I cannot say definitely as there are multiple moving parts there which could cause delays of some sort. But generally speaking, I would say you should be able to do all 3 of those things within an hour.

I don’t use a cell phone and in the past I have called a family member to pick me up at the airport. (There has been a pay phone in the terminal 1 baggage area.) Landing at SAN on 12/23/21, I could not find a pay phone for my use. A woman in the United baggage office told me they took all the pay phones out of terminal 2 two years ago. Is that correct?
Do I have to walk to terminal 1 to find a cell phone?
I know that cell phones are in wide use but I doubt that everyone has one.

Hi Rebecca. While there is still a need for pay phones, the need is quite minimal, hence the reason for the removal of the ones in terminal 2 (and perhaps terminal 1). I searched online and was unable to find if there is a pay phone in terminal 1. You have a few options. You could ask a friendly person in the baggage claim area (perhaps a person you saw on your plane) if they would make the call for you, letting your family member know in advance that there might be a call coming from an unrecognized number. Most people are happy to help and there is normally no cost for making the call. You could walk to terminal 1 but there is no guarantee there are still pay phones in that terminal either. You might also purchase a basic Tracphone (less than $20 for a refurbished model online or at Target, Walmart, etc.) that would allow you to make a limited amount of calls each month. Perhaps some of our readers know if there are any pay phones left at San Diego airport.
