I want to purchase AA Million Miler status. I always fly AA internationals in the First Class Cabin. How can I get this, especially now during COVID?

Hi Jacob,
American Airlines does not allow you to purchase Million Miler status outright. But if you have any of the Citi or Barclays AAdvantage cards, every $1 you spend on those cards through the end of 2020 will count as 1 mile towards Million Miler status.

You cannot use credit cards alone to achieve ExPlat status as you need 30 flight segments in the mix as well. Just for accuracy’s sake.

Hi Rusty. Thanks for your comment as I am sure others have thought the same. According to the American Airlines website, you can achieve Executive Platinum status by earning 200,000 Loyalty Points. This can be accomplished by spending on a qualifying AAdvantage credit card. However, you must fly 30 eligible flight segments to earn the Loyalty Choice Rewards levels (systemwide upgrades, Admiral’s Club passes, etc.) at the Platinum Pro level and Executive Platinum level. Flying the 30 segments is not a requirement for achieving any of the elite status levels.

Hi. Question about the segments requirement. Does this include award flights or only paid tickets? I’m looking for a data point but can’t find any, probably because this system is so new. Much appreciated.

Hi dominick. While you definitely won’t earn redeemable AA miles or Loyalty Points on award tickets, the segments flown on American Airlines award flights appear to count toward the requirement. I was not able to find any reference on the AA website to confirm this but in my own account I received a segment credit for an award flight.

I was not given flight credit for any segment I used miles for, only paid segments.

Thank you, you confirmed what I noted in my response.

That is not true with the new loyalty program. I charged just over 200k this year on the Citibank credit card for non flying charges and business expenses this year and reached Executive Platinum status for 2023 already. If I want further benefits, like a systemwide upgrade I need 30 flights. I don’t care much about those anyway and my credit card gets me in the lounge. I am upgraded on almost every domestic flight.

Hi there. I believe there is an error in this but can anyone please confirm… American Airlines flights to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean are NOT considered qualifying flights (except to Mexico City) and therefore Executive Platinum travellers do NOT have access to the Admiral’s Club on these routes. Does anyone have different information?

Hi Michael. I found this on American Airlines’ website. “For a limited time: Starting April 1, 2021, qualifying international flights will include flights between the U.S. and Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico.” Here is the link for additional information but yes, access is limited.: https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/clubs/admirals-club-access.jsp#:~:text=Qualifying%20AAdvantage%20Executive%20Platinum%C2%AE,Canada%2C%20the%20Caribbean%20and%20Mexico.
