If I am asked by my credit card company to upgrade, does that count as a new card? I mean count against the 24-month rule?

Hi Jean,
No – that should not count toward the 24 month rule.

If you, say, cancel your Delta Gold card, do your points stay with your Delta account?
Thanks!

Hi Matt. Once you have earned the Delta SkyMiles by spending on your card, they are transferred into your Delta SkyMiles account when your card statement closes. Once the miles are in your SkyMiles frequent flyer account, they do not expire, even if you cancel your card.

Do any airline credit cards offer a free checked bag on international flights if you are flying economy? We fly American to Mexico and use our American credit card. We are always charged a checked bag fee.

Hi Paula. Yes, the American Airlines-branded cards limit a free checked bag to domestic flights but the airline itself does offer a free checked bag when traveling on transpacific and transatlantic flights. Delta Airlines and United also offer a free checked bag when traveling internationally. Most airline-branded cards do limit free checked bags to domestic flights. Here’s a related article on credit cards and checked bags. /credit-cards/airline-credit-cards-free-checked-bags-and-perks/

In my opinion the Bank of America Flying Blue credit card is better than the Amex Delta Gold card. It currently offers a 100 xp bonus upon approval which gets you to Silver status while the Amex Delta card doesn’t offer any status qualifying points. Additionally, this card offers 70,000 bonus points and lots of additional benefits. Its annual fee is 89 dollars, so I think you guys should just check it out.
