Singapore Airlines is known for having a quality product in all classes of service, and business class is no exception. In fact, Singapore Airlines excels in its business class cabin.

If you’re looking for a fantastic business class experience for a long-haul flight, you’ll definitely want to give Singapore Airlines a try.

Singapore Airlines’ newest A380s feature a business class double bed. This is a huge improvement, especially for couples travelers over the old business class (which we’ll go through below).

You’ll have no problem being comfortable on this journey. Once you’ve realized you’re in the right place, enjoy a nice glass of Champagne before departure. It’s the perfect way to start your flight.

In the refurbished business class cabins, travelers even receive a small clothing refresher amenities kit by The Laundress, New York (in other cabins, Singapore Airlines does not provide an amenity kit due to concerns with wastefulness).

Once in flight, you can expect a nice meal paired with wine or a drink of your choice. As with Singapore first class, you’ll receive great service from the cabin crew. Remember that Singapore Airlines offers “Book the Cook” which allows you to prebook your meals in advance.

Let’s jump back to the preflight experience. You will enjoy business class check-in counters and often priority security lines to ensure you are quickly on your way to the lounge or your flight.

As a business class passenger, you’ll have access to Singapore SilverKris lounges. You can expect an expansive buffet with many types of food, including a great selection of desserts and beverages.

Whether you prefer beer, wine, or liquor, the SilverKris lounge will have what you need!

You can find these new business class seats on the following routes (flight times included):

  • Singapore (SIN) – Auckland (AKL) on SQ285 and SQ286  (9 hr 55 min)
  • Singapore (SIN) – Frankfurt (FRA) – New York (JFK) on SQ25 (~12 hr 50 min and ~8 hr 35 min)
  • Singapore (SIN) – Hong Kong (HKG) on SQ892 and SQ893 (~3 hr 45 min)
  • Singapore (SIN) – London-Heathrow (LHR) on SQ322 and SQ317 only (~13 hr 30 min)
  • Singapore (SIN) – Sydney (SYD) on SQ231 and SQ222  (~7 hr 45 min)
  • Singapore (SIN) – Zurich (ZRH) on SQ345 and SQ346  (~12 hr 40 min)

When you first set foot in Singapore’s business class cabin, you’re probably going to think you accidentally wandered into first class. Don’t worry, you’re in the right place!

Singapore’s business class product is just that nice. Not only will you have direct aisle access and a lie-flat seat — you’ll have the widest business class seat in the industry. This doesn’t just count other business class seats; it’s one of the widest seats even among first class products!

Basically, the new Singapore Airlines business class offers generously-sized, double bed seats, whereas the old Singapore Airlines business class offers huge, wide seats.

How To Fly Singapore Business Class Using Points

It’s clear that Singapore Airlines provides a premier business class experience, so let’s talk about how to book this flight.

Singapore KrisFlyer

Singapore Airlines does not release much (if any) business class award space to partners. Generally, it only allows business class awards to be booked through its own KrisFlyer program.

You can book your flight online by following these steps:

  1. Visit Singapore Airlines’ website.
  2. Select Redeem Flights.
  3. Select your desired travel dates and route.
  4. Select Business as your cabin of choice.
  5. Hit Search.
  6. Select your flight.

Hot Tip: Use our Transfer Partner Calculator to quickly determine how many miles you’ll get for transferring between programs.

Singapore Airlines also displays “Waitlist” in addition to available award seats. You will need to have the required KrisFlyer miles in your account if you want to waitlist a flight.

Many have been able to get their waitlisted seat confirmed within a week of departure, and some have even been able to do so a month or 2 prior to departure.

You can also book stopovers on award tickets with Singapore Airlines. Stopovers on round-trip Saver-level awards are free.

To book a stopover, you can book your award ticket over the phone, or book online and then call Singapore Airlines to book the stopover.

Additionally, while Singapore Airlines doesn’t have an official policy about putting award tickets on hold, customer service agents might be willing to do so. These holds can be good for up to a couple of days.

Putting an award flight on hold can be particularly useful when transferring points from one of Singapore’s partners. Sometimes your first call won’t be successful, so hang up and call again to try working with a different agent.

Other Options for Booking Singapore Airlines

Unfortunately, it’s very rare for a partner to have access to international business class award space on Singapore Airlines. If you do find space, you could book it with Air Canada Aeroplan, ANA Mileage Club, or Asiana Club.

Recently, some international business class award space between Australia and Singapore has been available to partners for award bookings.

Great Singapore Airlines Business Class Redemptions

You can fly business class from New York (JFK) to Singapore with a connection in Frankfurt, Germany for 111,500 KrisFlyer miles.

To visit Europe, you could also just fly to Frankfurt from New York for 81,000 miles. Or, you could fly from New York all the way to Sydney (connecting in both Frankfurt and Singapore) for 145,500 miles.

From the West Coast, you can fly business class nonstop from San Francisco or Los Angeles to Singapore for 107,000 miles. You can also connect from San Francisco to Hong Kong or from Los Angeles to Tokyo-Narita (NRT) or Taipei (TPE).

If you flew from San Francisco to Hong Kong without continuing on to Singapore, it would cost 100,500 KrisFlyer miles.

If you flew from Los Angeles to Tokyo-Narita, it would cost 103,500 miles. Los Angeles to Taipei would cost 100,500 KrisFlyer miles.

You can also book nonstop business class flights from Newark or New York to Singapore for 111,500 KrisFlyer miles.

Hot Tip: Don’t miss our dedicated in-depth guide to Singapore Airlines’ U.S.-based routes, including plane types and seating/cabin options.

Finally, remember that Singapore has a separate award chart for itineraries that involve flights operated by Star Alliance partners. This means that if you connect on United Airlines to catch a Singapore Airlines flight, the mileage cost will be different.

An example of this would be flying from Chicago (ORD) to New York (JFK) on United Airlines and then flying on Singapore Airlines in business class all the way to Sydney.

With the Star Alliance award chart, you would now pay 146,500 miles rather than the 145,000 miles required by the award chart for Singapore-only routes.

To book these Star Alliance awards, you will need to find Singapore award space online as directed above, and then check Air Canada to find United award space for the connection.

Once you do that, you need to call Singapore Airlines (833-727-0118) and provide the flight information to complete the booking.

Here are the mileage costs for Singapore Airlines’ new business class (double bed seats):

Singapore Airlines Redemption Comparison
OriginDestinationSingapore Airlines Saver Cost (Cheapest)Singapore Airlines Advantage Cost (Most Expensive)

The mileage cost for the reverse routes is identical. You always want to book Saver awards unless you’re in need of a redemption and the Advantage award is the only one available.

Note that Singapore Airlines no longer imposes fuel surcharges on awards booked on its own flights, so you can expect that the total taxes and fees won’t be steep.

When Should You Search for Award Space?

Just over 350 days prior to your departure dates, Singapore Airlines will release award space. Finding space is not always easy, so start your search early.

Often, it’s easier to find award availability on flights to the U.S.

What Makes This a Great Redemption?

Flying in business class with Singapore Airlines is definitely a luxurious experience both in the air and on the ground. You’ll be treated to great service and amenities at check-in, in the lounge, and in your super-comfortable seat.

SilverKris Lounge

As a business class passenger, you can relax in the SilverKris Lounge while waiting for your flight. You can pair any of your meals with a variety of beer wine and spirits.

Perhaps more importantly, the SilverKris Lounge provides a great place to relax between flights. Rather than fight through crowds and sit in uncomfortable chairs, you’ll have a nice calm wait.

Some SilverKris lounges even have showers!

Business Class Dining

Singapore Airlines is famous for its “Book the Cook” service that allows you to choose your meals before you board. While this seems like a service that would be reserved for first class passengers only, business class also gets access to this amazing option.

Its famous lobster thermidor is a great choice, but you’ll want to make sure you reserve yours before the flight. To Book the Cook, you must reserve a meal at least 24 hours prior to departure.

Business Class Service

A cabin crew can really make or break your experience on a flight, especially on a long-haul route where you could be with them for 12+ hours! This is where Singapore Airlines really excels.

Whether you want something to drink or just a picture to commemorate the experience, you’ll find a helping hand.

Final Thoughts

There’s no debate on this one: Singapore Airlines business class is a product and experience you don’t want to miss. Whether you’re flying across the Pacific, the Atlantic, or down to Australia, you’re going to have some fun.

Since Singapore is a partner of each transferable points program, there are plenty of opportunities to earn the necessary points to book your flight. So next time you’re looking for a flight to Asia (or Europe), give Singapore Airlines business class a try!

About Spencer Howard

Always a fan of flying, it was only natural that Spencer was drawn to finding a way to improve the travel experience.

Like many, he started this journey searching for cheap flights to take him around the world. This was fun for a while, but Spencer was intrigued by the idea of flying in business and first class!

Throwing himself into what became an extensive research project, Spencer spent 3-4 hours per night learning everything he could about frequent flyer miles over the course of several months (he thinks this is normal). He runs Straight to the Points, an award-seat alert platform.

Great resource – thanks! We’re trying to figure out how to book a biz class award flight on Singapore from Vienna to Denver, CO. Ideally, we’d like to have the main leg of the journey (Europe-US) be with Singapore to enjoy their highly-praised biz class product and get the most for our miles. So that means Frankfurt-NYC or Manchester-Houston, right? Then connecting flights could be on a partner airline.

How do we go about booking this and finding partner availability Vienna to Frankfurt or Manchester, then NYC or Houston to Denver?

Great info here, my wife and I are working on boosting up points for a trip to Japan/Singapore. I’m curious why your points are so different than what I’m seeing on Singapore’s website. You show that from JFK to SIN the flight cost for business is 99k points but on their website, it says it is 198k for business saver and 280k for business advantage.

Hi Josh. I just went to the Singapore Airlines web site and tried to duplicate what you saw. I typed in JFK to SIN and a Business Saver Award Ticket was 99,000 miles and a
Business Advantage Award Ticket was 140,000 miles. I think you’re pricing round trip. Here is the link: https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/ppsclub-krisflyer/miles/mileage-calculator/?calculator=redeemMiles

Hi – great article! I believe the rules have recently changed for waitlists, with all waitlists being released at the two week mark if not fulfilled; this would mean that if a WL hasn’t cleared by then, it would be cancelled.

Is the stopover on a one-way saver info still accurate? Looking on the website it doesn’t indicate paying a $100 fee as an option and won’t show the price in miles and fees if you select saver level and the stopover option.

I tried to call today to talk to someone in person but they asked people who are not working on travel in the next 5 days just go to the website and/or email. The corona virus has caused a lot of travel headaches they are trying to solve, apparently.

Hi KAT,

You can only book the $100 stopover over the phone. It still works.
