FYI:
Delta Air Lines’ Terminal 2 at JFK Airport in NY City has reopened.
I know this from first-hand experience as my flight from Raleigh/Durham, NC this past Monday, October 18 2021 arrived at JFK T2 and took the JFK Jitney Shuttle bus to reach Terminal 4.
So, passengers flying Delta and/or its code-share partners departing, arriving or connecting at JFK Airport need to double-check the gates for their flights, with “A” & “B” gates located at JFK Terminal 4, while all flights departing or arriving at “C” gates (C60-C70) using JFK Terminal 2.
Passengers with connecting flights operating at both of Delta’s terminals (2 & 4) at JFK can take a free, airside (post-security) shuttle bus (Delta’s name for the bus connecting JFK Terminals 2 & 4 is “JFK Jitney Shuttle”) between the 2 terminals, at gates C60 in Terminal 2, plus B18 & B54 in Terminal 4.
For flights operating at the “A” gates in Terminal 4, use gate B18 when taking Delta’s JFK Jitney Shuttle bus between Terminals 2 & 4 as gate B54 is *at least* 1/2 mile away at the farthest end of the exceptionally long “B” concourse at JFK Terminal 4.
Final note: Construction work to expand JFK Terminal 4 is, or soon will be, underway. When completed (scheduled for “Summer, 2023”), the $1.5 billion updated Terminal 4 will have 10 additional gates (eight for regional jets, two for mainline narrowbodies located at the end of the “A” concourse, which currently is, and will remain so even after the ten new gates are completed, considerably smaller/shorter than the seemingly endless “B” concourse, with some of the current regional jet gates at the very far end of the “B” concourse also upgraded to accommodate mainline narrowbody jets), which is the one less than the 11 gates currently at Terminal 2, and although a much larger (16 gates) – and costlier (as in $3.8 billion) – expansion of JFK Terminal 4 planned before the onset of Covid19 pandemic was since scaled back, after the more modest expansion at T4 is completed (it was reduced by 60%), all of Delta’s flights will operate “under one [exceptionally large & long, that is] roof” at JFK Airport eliminating the need to change terminals – although one hopes the airline keeps its fleet of shuttle buses in service to allow for connections between the “A” & “B” concourses as the distance between gates at opposite ends of the two concourses will easily be at least 1 mile, if not considerably longer, which will make for extremely long and challenging hikes for many passengers, especially those with young children, seniors and reduced mobility.
Once closed in Summer 2023, JFK T2 which by then will be more than years since it opened in 1962, will be torn down to make way for a long planned expansion and modernization of JFK Terminal 1, originally slated to be 2.8 million square feet, 23 additional gates (22 widebody, one narrowbody), and costing $7.4 billion.
When completed, and if the original plans and budget remain (brief, as in “quick & dirty”, efforts to research/fact check updated T1 project size/cost were inconclusive, with more recent Press Releases omitting data for cost, size/scope, and one trade publication failing to include a date or byline [ugh!]), Terminals 1 and 4 will be connected, although they will be managed/operated by separate corporate entities.

Delta’s Terminal 2 has reopened; my flight this past Monday, October 18th 2021 arrived there, so this is based on actual, first hand experience.
Delta operated flights (and flyers with code-share flights operated by Delta Air Lines and/or its “Delta Connection” regional partners, Endeavor Air and Republic Airways, including other code-share partners, for example, Virgin Atlantic, Air France, KLM, Korean Airlines, AeroMexico, Aeroflot, LATAM, etc.) will be wise to double check the gate assignments to ensure they’re in the correct terminal in time for boarding their flights, as follows:
Delta & code-share flights indicated as “operated by Delta Air Lines” or “Endeavor Air DBA Delta Connection” / “Republic Airways DBA Delta Connection”, with “A” and “B” numbered gates operate at JFK Terminal 4, while Delta/Delta (including “Delta Connection”) operated code-share flights having C60-C70 numbered gates are located at JFK Terminal 2.
Free, airside connections via “JFK Jitney Shuttle” bus between the two Delta terminals at JFK Airport are available at gates B18 & B54 in Terminal 4, and gate C60 in Terminal 2.
Passengers with flights at “A” gates in Terminal 4 should use gate B18 to avoid extremely long walk from gate B54 to the “A” concourse, which is approximately 1 mile (and possibly more) and 20-25 mins walk from end-to-end for those who walk briskly.
Those with reduced mobility should allow at least 30 mins time between gates on the “A” concourse and gates B40 and higher on the “B” concourse in JFK Terminal 4.
Yeah, gates at JFK T4 often require long treks!

I just went through TSA at Terminal 1. There was not a dedicated Pre-check line, and after two agents told me I could at least keep my shoes on, a third made me take them off after I had put all my stuff on the belt. There were even worse horrors that I won’t go into.

The parking for terminal 1 is now at terminal 8 accessible by shuttle bus, it’s a disaster getting there
