The VivaAir website as of June 10, 2021, says that the basic fare does not include any carry-on allowance. But in early June, it matched what you published back in April. Carry-ons are free.
Did they change their baggage policy to jack up the fare? If you take their lowest fare of $290 RT for MDE to MIA, and add the cheapest baggage fee of $39 each way, that $290 RT becomes $368 and you can pay that or less on American or Copa and get a free carry-on, more legroom, a reclining seat, and no advertising smeared all over the interior of the plane.
When I flew Avianca a few weeks ago, the boarding pass is printed on my phone, there is no price code on the boarding pass, just my assigned seat and the flight information. Basically just an Economy ticket. I brought my conforming carry-on aboard with no issues raised.
At Medellín Viva used to make you go to the check-in counter and get your carry on weighed and then tagged to show you paid the extra fee. It’s been a while since I’ve flown obviously.
Can you please check your sources and see if your information is still current or if they changed it in June 2021??

Hi Norm,
You are correct! It seems VivaAir basic fare no longer includes a free carry-on. I’ve updated the post to indicate that!

VivaAir’s webpage also seems a bit strange. Has anyone tried to buy two tickets under one purchase, one Extra and one Light? It is only letting me choose one type for both. Seems a bit silly if you ask me. Very bad UI.

I can’t find a way to do that either. It lets you add bags individually, but not the bundles. Frontier and Spirit are the same way with their bundles. If you want to do that, it seems you need to buy two separate tickets, so you’ll likely be seated apart.

Where did you find information about car seats and strollers flying free. We flew today from BJX to SAT with our 2 year old and they would not let us check either the car seat or the stroller for free.
