Hi, can I ask how much I will pay for additional 20kg excess from Oslo to the Philippines?
Thank you!

Jarrod West

August 08, 2019

Hi Jerry,

That route charges $70 per kg in excess baggage. So to bring 20 extra kilograms would cost $1,400.

Thanks for reading!

I have heard a rumor that Thai Airways will change back the baggage weight again to 30 kg also for ticket code RBD L / V / W.
Start 10 of august 2019.

Hi Morgan,

Thanks for the comment. We’ll keep an eye out whether Thai Airways publicizes this change!

August 11, 2019

Hi can you please help me, I’m looking to fly to Vietnam in October with Thai Airways on economy class, but I’m not booking directly with Thai Airways, I’m booking with Sky Scanner.

My question is if the ( ticket code RBD L/V/W: 20 kg (44 lbs) applies to me or can I take 30 kg of luggage?

Ticket code RBD L/V/W: 20 kg (44 lbs)

Catherine Luther

August 13, 2019

Hi Yonis,

A we’re not Sky Scanner we cannot confirm this for you; however, if your reservation states RBD L/V/W as a booking code, then it is likely that 20 kg would be your checked baggage allowance as this is what is what Thai Airways state on their baggage page.

Tushar Kanti Roy

August 12, 2019

Hi There,
I hope that you are doing well. I will be travelling with my family along with my 4 months two kids (infants) from Melbourne to Dhaka. Could you please let me know how many free bags are allowed per traveller?

Regards,
Tushar

Catherine Luther

August 13, 2019

Hi Tushar,

Thai Airways permits individual adult passengers to bring 30 kg of luggage (excluding ticket code RBD L/V/W: 20 kg) and infants not occupying a seat are permitted 10 kg.

Tushar Kanti Roy

I’m traveling from Brussels to Bangkok and from there to Guangzhou. I wanted to ask if my carry on weight requirement is still 7kg or if there are other rules? Am I also allowed to take my laptop in my carry on? The handle of my carry on is also broken, meaning I can’t pull it up. Will it still be included for the size dimension?

Jarrod West

August 18, 2019

Hi Tina,

Yes, the carry-on requirement is still 7kg. You can definitely bring your laptop in your carry-on and they will not include the handle in the dimensions.

Hi,

My daughter is going to Seoul for pursuing her Masters. The check in baggage allowance as per her ticket is 30 kgs. Though it is a decent allowance, we find that it is not sufficient for a student who is supposed to stay in a foreign country for at least 2 years. I understand from your website that students travelling to Australia and New Zealand get extra baggage allowance. Can this be extended to my daughter also as a special case?

Catherine Luther

August 21, 2019

Hi,

Please be aware that we are not Thai Airways, we are UpgradedPoints.com so we advise you contact the airline directly with your enquiry. The contact details for your country of origin can be found here.

Catherine Luther

September 02, 2019

Hi Dev,

These are the size and weight allowances for carry-on baggage:

Personal item: 37.5 cm (15 in) x 25 cm (10 in) x 12.5 cm (5 in). Item must not exceed 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs)
Standard carry-on: 56 cm (22 in) x 45 cm (18 in) x 25 cm (10 in). Item must not exceed 7 kg (15 lbs)

To Thai Airways BKK.

I am on vacation for 3-weeks. I, along with my family, would like to enjoy visiting a few islands in Phuket — please confirm your baggage/luggage rules when you flying to Phuket from BKK. Is it free for cabin – luggage and checked-in-luggage? rgds

Erin Miller

September 10, 2019

Hi there, this will depend on what cabin class you are flying. If you can let us know that bit of information we can attempt to assist with your question.

(Please note, we are not Thai Airways so any answer we give will be based on the information Thai Airways publishes on their website. If you’d like to speak with Thai Airways directly, we suggest you call their Customer Service Phone Line)

Katya Cox

September 18, 2019

Hi,

Just wondering if I book Thai Airways with economy flight 30kg Melbourne to London Heathrow. How much would it cost for another piece of checked in luggage also 30kg?

Thank you

Catherine Luther

September 19, 2019

Hi Katya,

Based on the excess baggage table for Thai Airways, Melbourne is region 4 and the UK is zone 5. This route would cost $70 per kilogram so an additional 30 kg would cost $2,100. If you book additional luggage online or with the Thai Airways contact center at least 24 hours before your flight departure, then you get 20-35% off excess luggage.

Gayathri

September 20, 2019

I am travelling on Thai Airways (Economy Class). Could please tell me how much kg I can have in hand luggage and check in?

Catherine Luther

September 20, 2019

Hi Gayathri,

For carry-on, a personal item must not exceed 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) and the standard carry-on must not exceed 7 kg (15 lbs).

For checked luggage, the standard Economy allowance is 30kg (66 lbs) apart from ticket code RBD L/V/W where the allowance is 20 kg (44 lbs).

JoElla Malone

September 25, 2019

Traveling from Manila to Bangkok (one-way) on a code W ticket. Which would be considered an international flight and not domestic, correct? I booked the flight in January 2019 for travel in November 2019. Please clarify the baggage guidelines for me — I think I understand that I can have either:
a) 2 pieces of checked luggage but they cannot exceed 30 kg/44 lbs total weight for the 2 pieces OR
b) 1 piece with a total weight of 30 kg/44 lbs.

Jarrod West

September 28, 2019

Hi JoElla,

For international trips, you can bring as many pieces of checked luggage as you would like as long as the total weight for all of the pieces is under 30 kg/66 lbs.

Jarrod West

October 01, 2019

Dave

October 26, 2019

I’m flying YUL-YYZ-LHR-VTE on a United award ticket and stuck with 12+hr layover at Heathrow. I won’t have the energy to go sightseeing. I would like to use the United or AC lounge at T2, but am told I have to collect bags and exit customs, then recheck bags, because of the over 12hr layover. It is on the same ticket and flying in and out of T2 (air canada, thai) They didn’t tell me when I booked that I couldn’t check bags to destination but had to collect them at heathrow, which means I’ll be stranded landside until the thai airways counter opens 3 hrs before the flight, and I can’t use the lounge airside during the long layover.
Also, a new set of baggage rules apply:
YYZ-LHR 2 x 23kg
LHR-BKK 1 x 30kg

Is there any way I can recheck my bags 10 hours before departure, so I can go back to the lounge airside? Thanks, Dave

Stephen Au

October 28, 2019

Hi Dave,

This is unusual as airlines usually have interline agreements with each other. However, this isn’t always the case. The best thing to do is contact the airline that issued you your ticket and inquire with them directly. Thanks for reading.

Ingeborg

October 31, 2019

I would like to book, how do I know what code (L/V/W) my booking will have? The reason is the 30 kilo luggage.
Thank you!

Catherine Luther

November 01, 2019

Hi Ingeborg,

These codes are visible in booking systems for travel agents, but if you’re planning to book via the Thai Airways website, then the baggage allowance will be stated on the booking page so you’ll know if your fare includes 30kg.

Catherine Luther

November 12, 2019

Hi Neelum,

Please be aware that we are not Thai Airways, we are UpgradedPoints.com. I have removed your booking reference for your own privacy. If you’re flying Economy then your baggage allowance would be 30 kg, unless your booked on fare code RBD L where 20 kg is permitted. Check the details on your ticket or contact Thai Airways.

Children receive the same the baggage allowance as adults. The only exclusion are lap infants where a seat has not been purchased.

Thai Airways doesn’t publish any oversized fees on their website so we advise you contact Thai Airways directly to query this.
