While Iberia’s carry-on baggage policy is fairly standard, its checked baggage fees are a bit more complicated than the average carrier.

These fees vary by fare purchased/cabin class, route, season of travel, and time of purchase, as you can see per our tables below, so check closely to determine your cost.

Iberia Carry-on Allowance

1 personal item: FREE
1 standard carry-on bag: FREE
2 standard carry-on bags: FREE for Iberia group flights, business, and long-haul passengers

Size and Weight Restrictions

  • Personal: 15.7 x 11.8 x 5.9 inches (40 x 30 x 15 cm). Weight undisclosed.
  • Standard: 22 x 15.7 x 9.8 inches (56 x 40 x 25 cm). Maximum weight: 22 pounds (10 kg) for economy and 30 pounds (14 kg) for business

Exceptions

Passengers traveling to/from London are not permitted to have bags and other items exceeding 190 cm in length.

All passengers traveling from the U.S. can only carry 1 piece of carry-on baggage and 1 other personal item on their outbound flight, whether they are flying in business or economy.

For Air Nostrum flights, the cabin bag allowance is 8 kg and the maximum dimensions are 45 x 35 x 20 cm.

Lap Infant Carry-on Policy

  • Discount tickets for minors, i.e., children (aged 2 to 11) or infants (under 2 traveling with an adult) will have the same allowance as an adult and the airline will also check a foldable stroller or a car seat free of charge.

Stroller Check Policy

  • A stroller can be checked at the ticket counter or at the gate.

Iberia Checked Baggage Allowance

All checked bags must adhere to a max weight of 50 pounds (23 kg) and max linear dimensions of 62 inches (158 cm).

As mentioned, your checked baggage allowance is dependent on a number of factors, including the fare you purchased/cabin class.

Even the economy options vary, so make sure you know what you’re allotted with your fare when booking.

Fare Type/Flight TypeLong-haulShort- and Medium-haul
Economy Basic0 checked bag0 checked bag
Economy Optional/Comfort/Optional Flex/Flexible1 checked bag1 checked bag
Premium Economy Promotional/Optional/Optional Flex/Flexible2 checked bagN/A

Iberia states: “If your ticket indicates “Baggage Allowance: 0PC” (zero pieces) it means that your fare does not include free baggage transport in the hold.”

To find specific baggage allotments for your flight, please see Iberia’s official baggage calculator.

Additional/Excess Baggage Fees

Iberia doesn’t make it extremely easy to see your additional/excess baggage fees at a glance.

In terms of excess pieces of luggage: Iberia no longer provides a hard and fast table to assist in calculating your fees. You must go through the baggage calculator tool which issues information specific to your flight date, cabin class, fare purchased, and time of baggage allotment purchase.

Then you must utilize the Add another bag option to calculate your added fee for excess pieces above your free allowance (if applicable).

We ran a few route searches to give you an idea of additional baggage fees for the various fare types and cabin classes.

You can see from the table below that there doesn’t seem to be a difference in cost whether you are traveling from the U.S. East or West Coast or connecting from Iberia’s hub in Madrid onto other destinations, but do check using the calculator for your specific flight details.

The fees below are applicable to each piece of extra baggage.
