EVA Air has a fairly generous baggage allowance, but don’t get caught out on overweight checked baggage — this is charged by piece for flights to/from the U.S., so the opportunity isn’t there to pay for just a few extra pounds.

EVA Air’s Carry-on Allowance

1 personal item: Free for all classes
1 standard carry-on bag: Free for premium economy and economy class passengers
2 standard carry-on bags: Free for Royal Laurel, Premium Laurel, and business class passengers

Size Restrictions

  • Personal: 16 x 12 x 4 inches (40 x 30 x 10 cm)
  • Standard: 22 x 14 x 9 inches (56 x 36 x 23 cm,) maximum weight 15 pounds (7 kg)

Lap Infant Carry-on Policy

  • When traveling with a lap infant, you are allowed to bring 1 carrying basket, collapsible stroller, or car seat in addition to the standard carry-on allowance. Infant necessity items such as food and feeding bottles can be brought on board to the maximum allowance of 11 pounds (5 kg).

Stroller Gate Check Policy

  • Large strollers will be accepted as checked baggage only. For weight allowances, review the table below for checked baggage allowances as this depends on the destination.

Hi!! I’m traveling from the Philippines to NYC. Baggage allowance is 2pcs of 23kgs each (a total of 46kgs). Can I actually bring 1 large luggage that weighs 46kgs or less?

Catherine Luther

July 22, 2019

Hi Kat,

Each piece must not exceed 23 kg. Airlines do not usually allow passengers to combine weight when a route works on the piece concept.

I’m flying from Osaka to Toronto on a standard economy ticket, but I will probably have one overweight luggage, so will I be charged the price of one excess baggage + additional fee ($200CAD+41) or just the $41CAD? Because I was about to purchase prepaid excess baggage but the fine print said it did not apply to oversized or overweight baggage.

Catherine Luther

July 30, 2019

Hi Michelle,

If you mean that 1 of the 2 pieces in your free checked allowance will be overweight, then you would be charged USD 32/CAD 41. If you mean you are bringing a third bag that will be overweight, then the fee would be USD 155/CAD 200 + USD 32/CAD 41.

Hello Catherine,

I have a balikbayan box that i want to bring to Canada as cargo. Is this allowed and how much does Eva Air charge per kilo of cargo?

Thank you very much,

Brendz

Catherine Luther

July 31, 2019

Hi Brendz,

Eva Air does not publicize information on their cargo operations so you will need to give their cargo department a call directly to query this.

I am traveling EVA economy from Houston to Manila. Just to make things clear, excess baggage over 50lbs and less than 70lbs will be charged $32 usd? Can both of my checked luggage bags be over 50lbs? Willing to pay $64 usd for baggage allowance.

Catherine Luther

August 05, 2019

Hi KV,

Although we cannot confirm 100% as we’re not Eva Air, this is how we have interpreted the information presented by the airline – $32 for each bag that weighs over 50lbs and less than 70lbs. However, as this states an ‘Additional fee’ you may want to give Eva Air a call to clarify or log in to your booking online to check pre-paid luggage fees.

Hi, I wonder how many carry-on packages can I have? I have one back pack (for standard carry-on) and a small box (dimensions are 13in x 13in x 4in). Do I have to pay anything else for the carry-on?
Thank you.

Catherine Luther

August 23, 2019

Hi Tu Anh,

Eva Air allows passengers to bring a standard carry-on and a personal item. The maximum dimensions for the personal item is 4” x 12” x 16” and the airline may use baggage sizers at the airport. These are to ensure the item can fit under the seat, so although your box does not exceed the total linear dimensions, be prepared to check the item if it doesn’t fit in the bag sizer.

Tu Anh Dang

August 23, 2019

Hi,
Thank for the information. So will the box fit the bag sizer or is there any way that I can check if it fits or not? I don’t want to leave my box behind.
Or can I carry the stuff inside the box by a nylon-bag? It will properly fit the bag sizer.
Thanks for your time.

Catherine Luther

August 24, 2019

Hi,

Unfortunately I cannot tell you whether your box will fit inside the bag sizer. It’s up to you whether you bring a box or a bag with your personal items, but if you want to guarantee that they will be allowed in the cabin then you will need to ensure that they do not exceed 10 cm x 30 cm x 40 cm / 4” x 12” x 16”.

August 23, 2019

Hi, I have a flight with Eva Airline from Kuala Lumpur to Paris with a layover in Taipai. I am in Premium Economy and I would like to know how many bags I can check. Can I check 2 bags for 17,5kg each or I can only check one bag for 35kg ?
Thank you for your reply
Emma

Catherine Luther

August 24, 2019

Hi Emma,

This route with Eva Air uses the weight concept and you are allocated 35 kg of weight that you can distribute across multiple bags. So you could have 2 bags of 17.5 kg each.

I think I asked the wrong person on this site…sorry.
This Q & A is stinkin’ AWESOME!!! You’re answering FAQ real time!!!
My question is this…If I book my flight, Economy Feb. 2020 to Cebu, with EVA Air…and they go on strike…again…will other airlines keep EVA Air’s luggage and fee schedule?

Catherine Luther

August 24, 2019

Thanks Ray! We do try to reply as quickly as possible to help our readers 🙂

Unfortunately, I can’t help on this one and I’m not sure you would even get an answer from Eva Air on this as this would be dependent on the other airlines. It might still be worth giving Eva Air a call to see if they can provide any reassurances.

LUCIA M. LIBRE

August 31, 2019

A blessed day to everyone!
I already purchased RT ticket economy with Eva Air in going to Cebu, Philippines from Christchurch, New Zealand this coming December 19, 2019, with my husband.
I am asking how much it costs for another extra baggage of 30 kilos? Looking forward to hear from your reply soon.
Many thanks with kind regards.

Catherine Luther

September 02, 2019

Hi Lucia,

That route would work on the weight concept, so additional weight is charged by the kilogram rather than by piece. For your route, Eva Air charges $30 per kilogram, so 30 kg of additional weight would cost you $900. As we’re not Eva Air, we can’t confirm this for you 100%, but this is the information we have sourced from the airline’s website.

I am flying from Vienna to Taipei with one stop in Bangkok. My ticket is economy class. I am allowed to have 30 kg as weight. My question is: is it possible to divide them in two bags each 15 kg. Or do i have to take only one baggage?

THANKS A LOT 🙂

Catherine Luther

September 04, 2019

Hi Elbahgy,

Yes, you can split the 30 kg weight between two bags.

September 21, 2019

Hi, I am booked for a flight to the USA from Thailand, what are the procedures and requirements if I would like to take an extra bag? Can you please inbox me the rate per additional weight? Thank you.

Jarrod West

September 21, 2019

Hi Aaron,

EVA air extra baggage policy is not charged by weight, it is charged by the bag. You will pay $140 for an extra bag if you are traveling to Thailand from the West Coast of the U.S., and $155 if you are traveling from the East Coast.

Thanks for reading!

We have purchased a “lap infant” ticket for our baby daughter to fly with us on EVA. Included with this is 1 “free” checked bag. If we check her stroller and/or car seat do they count against the free checked bag or are they checked for free since they are baby necessary items? Or are these only free if we gate-check them?

Jarrod West

September 26, 2019

Hi Geoff,

Only one of those items would count towards the free checked baggage allowance, so you would be required to pay to check the other.

Thanks for reading!

Abi

September 27, 2019

Hi. We have 2 under 2 years old babies and we’ll be traveling to the Philippines. My question is, will their strollers be gate checked as it says additional on carry-on? Or do we need to check them in?
Thank you

Jarrod West

September 28, 2019

Hi Abi,

You should be able to check your strollers at the gate but I would contact EVA Air directly to verify.

Thanks for reading!

I am flying from SLC to Manilla Philippines. I leave SLC on Alaska airlines, go to Seattle where I catch EVA Air to Taipei Airport and then Taipei to Manilla. Currently I have 1 purse, 1 carry on and I want to check two bags. My carry on weighs 25 lbs, but i am reading it cannot be more that 15. My two check in bags I can keep under 50 lbs, but i believe they are bigger than 62 inches all around. Plus I read somewhere that it said no more than 107 for two bags. Does that mean one bag at 62 inches and the second one should not be bigger than 45? I am a bit confused on the luggage, what I can take, how many bags, how much weight, how big in size and can I go over and pay extra if I want, or will they turn me away at the airport. Also do you know if I check my luggage in at SLC Alaska Airways will it go all the way to Manilla, or do I have to pick it up in Seattle and recheck it for the EVA flight?

Catherine Luther

October 10, 2019

Hi,

If you booked the flight on 1 ticket, then it is likely that Alaska Airlines will check your luggage through to your final destination, but to be sure you should contact the airline directly. For checked luggage, Eva Air does have a size restriction of 62 inches and if a single piece exceeds this (62-80 inches) then you will be charged £100 per oversized piece.

The carry-on allowance is airline specific so you will need to adhere to the minimum restrictions. This is 7kg for Eva Air with a size restriction of 9 x 14 x 22 in. The personal item must not exceed 16 x 12 x 4. If your carry-on exceeds the 7kg weight, then you will have to check the items and will incur excess baggage charges.

Chinh

October 06, 2019

I bought the economy ticket from Vietnam to Houston . So can I pack as much as I can for the third bag? Are there weight limits for third bags?

Jarrod West

October 06, 2019

Hi Chinh,

The weight limit for the 3rd bag is the same as the first two, 23kgs.

For this route, you may be charged up to $140 for the extra bag provided it is under 23 kgs. Each bag’s weight over 23 kg (50 lb) and up to 32 kg (70 lb) may be an extra $32.

Hi Michael,

Eva Air states that they charge $300 for bags over 203 cm (80 in) linear measurement.

Can I have 70lbs and willing to pay $32 for each bag and if I wanted a third bag with 50lbs weight that will cost me $140 then it’s ok. Please respond thanks, I’m traveling from SFO to Philippines. Thanks

Catherine Luther

October 10, 2019

Hi Lily,

That is correct, according to the information on Eva Air’s website – $32 for each piece of overwight luggage. For an additional piece, SFO to the Philippines would be $115.

Eva Air would charge $155 for an extra 23kg + an additional $32 to increase the weight to 32kg.

Hello,

I will be flying Economy with Eva Air this weekend to Hanoi, Vietnam with a stopover to Taipei, Taiwan. Just to confirm with baggage, I am entitled to two checked baggage (23 kg / 50 lb) each and one carry-on baggage (7 kg / 15 lb)?

Catherine Luther

October 30, 2019

Hi Michael,

To help here we would need to know where you are flying from. As your flight is quite soon, we would advise you give the airline a call to confirm your allowance or check the information on your ticket.

Michael

October 30, 2019

Sorry, I’m departing from Toronto to Taipei, Taiwan as my stopover and then from Taipei to Hanoi, Vietnam.

Catherine Luther

November 01, 2019

Hi Michael,

If you’re flying from Canada then Eva Air’s allowance would be 2 x 50lb checked bags. For the cabin, you’re permitted 1 x 15lb standard carry-on and a separate personal item such as a laptop bag.

Hi Trung,

For that route an additional 50lb bag will cost $155. So $310 for 2 additional bags.

I have a 32″ inch luggage (measures 31x21x12 = 64). I have been using this luggage with different airlines, but this is my first time flying Eva Air. Will this be oversized or acceptable?
Thanks!

Hi Gee,

If you’re planning to use this piece as carry-on luggage then it will likely be oversize. If you’re checking it then you should be fine. Thanks for reading!

Hi, I’ll be flying to the Philippines from Houston, with a layover in Taipei. I’m flying in economy class and I have 2 bags that weigh 23.60 kg each. Now, my question is does my luggage need to be exact 23 kg? Am I going to be charged for checking luggage with 23.60 kg each?

Jarrod West

November 18, 2019

Hi Demie,

Since the bags are technically over 23kgs, then EVA Air may charge you excess baggage fees. You could try removing some items from your checked bag and placing them in your carry-on luggage or personal item.

I’m traveling from Vietnam to U.S.A. with a lap infant. Does the lap infant allow to have a carry-on bag and what is the standard weight allow for lap infant’s carry-on bag?

Jarrod West

December 09, 2019

Hi Tuan,

Lap infants have the same carry on baggage allowance as all other passengers, 1 personal item and 1 carry-on bag up to 15 lbs. Thanks for reading!

Hello Erin,
I find all the information above very useful, especially for first time travellers with Eva Air. I will be travelling from Canada to Manila (on economy class) in a week. My concern is that my e-ticket bears only my name and surname, but my passport has a middle name. I have all supporting IDs which has only my name and surname. Will this be an issue on my departure day? Thank you in advance and more power!

Hey Raquel, you shouldn’t have an issue if your ticket doesn’t list your middle name so long as your first and last name are correct. However — to be safe — you should call EVA Air to confirm this. Safe travels!

Hi,

How much is the fee exceeding 50lbs travelling to Philippines from SFO, one of my suitcase weight is 63lbs? Is it $32? Also, I have an extra luggage of 50 lbs, how much is additional fee? Thank you.

Jarrod West

November 28, 2019

Hi Maris,

Yes, your fee for the 63lb bag should be $32. The fee for an extra piece of luggage for that route should be $115.

Hello,
I’m flying economy from JFK.
Can you please confirm that I can have 1 carry-on + 1 personal + 2 checked-in?
For the weight of the carry-on, is EVA air strict with 15 lb weight, which I think is ridiculous because the carry-on is almost empty?
thank you!

Jarrod West

December 09, 2019

Hi George,

Yes, you should be able to bring 1 personal item, 1 carry-on bag, and 2 checked bags. I cannot say as to how strict EVA is in regards to carry-on bags, they may opt to weight the bag, or the may not.

Hi,
I bought an economy ticket from YYZ to Vietnam. I will have 2 free pieces of baggage (up 23kg), but I want to pack my two bags up to 32kg.
How much do I need to pay for 2 pieces?
(As stated, each piece overweight up to 32kg will cost $32 per each, meaning that I have to pay $64?).
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks

Jarrod West

December 13, 2019

Hi John,

Correct, if each bag is 32kgs then you can expect to pay $32 each, $64 total.

Hello,

I am traveling from LAX to Manila through EVA. I am checking in 2 boxes. Both boxes meet the weight limit (45-47ish lbs) and linear inches (62”). I wanted to check if I can tie up the boxes so I can easily grab them from the carousel

Jarrod West

December 26, 2019

Hi VMB,

There does not appear to be any information listed on the EVA website that states whether this is allowed. So I recommend you contact their customer service team directly for an answer to this.

Hello!

Do you accept combined baggage weight?

Example: My baggage allowance consists of 2 23kg check-in bags. If one of my baggage exceeded the 23kg limit (26kg) and the other baggage weighs only 15kg, should I pay for the excess baggage fee for my 1st bag? Or I will not pay for it since the combined weight is only 41kg (26+15kg)?

Looking forward to your response.

Jarrod West

January 16, 2020

Hi Patricia,

Please be advised that we do not represent, or have any affiliation with, EVA Air. With that said, the usually do not accept combined baggage weight. Each bag should be under 23 kgs each or may be subject to additional fees.

Hello
I am flying from Seattle, to Manila, I would like to bring my fishing pole. It is in a hard plastic case that is 3 inches in diameter and 50 inches long. Would this be considered oversize baggage, since the overall dimensions do not exceed 62 inches.

Catherine Luther

February 04, 2020

Hi Mark,

It would not be considered oversized as Eva Air’s website states the following information on fishing equipment:

“Angling/Fishing Equipment
– Pre-advise EVA Air at the time of booking.
– Regardless of the actual dimensions may be considered as a piece of baggage at 158 cm/62 in.
– Including one fishing tackle box, one landing net, one pair of fishing boots (all properly encased), one reel, 2 rods
– All items must be properly encased in a suitable container.”

If my baggage weighs over 50 pounds but below 70, will I be charged a fee? Would it be more or less economic if I was to check in a third baggage that weighed below 50 pounds?

Thank you for your assistance

Catherine Luther

February 14, 2020

Hi Peter,

Eva Air’s baggage allowance depends on the route. What are your departure and destination points?

My sister is traveling to Cambodia. She has 1 luggage and 1 box 22 inches by 22 inches with 22 kilos on both. Is the box size acceptable?

Catherine Luther

February 25, 2020

Hi Ly Chhay,

With Eva Air, the sum of the 3 dimensions of each piece may not exceed 62 inches (158 cm). If your box is 22 x 22 x 22 inches then it would exceed the maximum dimensions permitted. If you’re traveling in economy, then a piece can weigh up to 23 kg.

I booked my mother and father in law, travelling to Philippines from Calgary Canada, using EVA Air flight 9 Vancouver to Taipei and flight 271 Taipei to Philippines. I just want to ask what is the free baggage allowance for both of them?

Catherine Luther

March 09, 2020

Hi Joel,

Providing the two flights were booked on the same ticket, your mother and father in law should be permitted 2 x 50 pound (23 kg) bags each for the full journey.

I will travel from SIN to TPE to SFO, and SFO to PDX.. all booked on one flight with EVA. I believe the two free checked bags are included in the SFO to PDX portion operated by United. But I want to ask Upgraded Points to confirm?

Jarrod West

July 06, 2020

Hi Bobber,

Yes, your two checked bags should be free for your entire itinerary since it was all booked with EVA.

I am flying in economy class from Vietnam to Chicago. If one of my bags weighs 32 kg and the other one 23kg. How much will it cost?

I am flying from Manila to Taipei. I wanted to buy 20 kgs. As per the Kgs calculation, it comes $144. Can I buy a piece instead of buying for 20 Kgs? Please guide me.

Jarrod West

August 31, 2020

Hi Stanislaus,

Since both Manila and Taipei are categorized as weight regions, you are not able to just purchase a piece. The fee will be charged based on the weight of the bag.

I am flying from Houston, Texas to Phnom Penh, Cambodia on an economy class ticket. Can I bring a 70” tv as a checked bag? What is the maximum size they allow on a plane? How much is the charge for a bag that is oversized and overweight?

Jarrod West

November 19, 2020

Hi Bon,

Unfortunately, EVA Air doesn’t list anything about their policies on TVs as checked baggage on their website. Additionally, since we ourselves are not EVA Air (we simply find our information from what they list online), we cannot comment on their specific policy on this. We suggest you call their customer service line to inquire with them directly.

I am flying from Chicago to the Philippines. Aside from the 2 baggage allowance for economy I will be checking in 1 box with 23kgs and it is oversize (but below 80 inches). How much will I be paying for the extra and oversize baggage?

Jarrod West

Hi Kate,

For this route, an extra bag should cost $130, plus an oversized fee of $100, for a total of $230.

I will be traveling from JFK to the Philippines with EVA air in economy class. I know I can have 2 checked bags. My question is this, can my bike be my 2nd checked bag? The bike is only 15 lbs., but the size is bigger than the allowed baggage size. If it can’t be my second baggage, how much will it cost me?

Jarrod West

December 07, 2020

Hi Mary Ann,

You should be allowed to bring your bike as your second bag but you will likely be charged an oversized baggage fee of $100.

Greetings,

My wife and I are flying to the Philippines next week. Since we’re both a Star Alliance Gold Member, which we accrued from flying ASIANA, are there any benefits we should take into consideration? Are we entitled to 70 lbs for one of our check-in luggage? And the 2nd check-in luggage remains to be at 50 lbs? Thank you for looking at this matter.

Jarrod West

June 30, 2021

Hi Nelson,

Star Alliance Gold members receive quite a handful of benefits. You can view them all on our guide to Star Alliance status. As far as the luggage is concerned, if the flight is classified by piece then you should be eligible for 1 extra piece of luggage. If it is a weight-based route then you should be eligible for an additional 44 pounds (20 kg.) of baggage weight.
