easyJet is another airline whose baggage fees are dependent upon which point in time you buy your allowance. This means you’ll save money if you purchase your bags online simultaneously with your ticket.

easyJet Carry-on Allowance

1 underseat cabin bag: FREE
1 standard carry-on bag: FREE only for easyJet Plus cardholders, FLEXI fare, Up Front or Extra Legroom customers

Size Restrictions

  • Underseat Cabin Bag: 17.7 x 14.2 x 7.9 inches (45 x 36 x 20 cm), maximum weight of 33 pounds (15 kg)
  • Standard: 22 x 17.7 x 9.8 inches (56 x 45 x 25 cm), maximum weight of 33 pounds (15 kg)

Lap Infant Carry-on Policy

  • If you’re traveling with an infant (under 2) on your lap, you can bring 1 additional underseat bag.

Stroller Check Policy

  • A stroller and 1 other item such as a car seat can be checked at the gate free of charge and will be available at the baggage reclaim at your destination.

easyJet Checked Baggage Allowance

There are a couple of weight options for checked baggage but all pieces must not exceed max linear dimensions of 108 inches (275 cm) per piece.

Online:
Checked Baggage up to 33 pounds (15 kg): From £6.99 per bag (~$8)
Checked Baggage 33 to 50 pounds (15 to 23 kg): From £9.49 per bag (~11)

Additional/Excess Baggage Fees

  • Each customer, including children and infants, can buy up to 3 hold bags. You can buy extra weight at £12 (~$13) per 3-kilogram units (~6 lbs), up to a maximum of 32 kilograms (~50 lbs) per bag.
  • If a 15-kilogram hold bag (~33 lbs) has been purchased, then extra weight can be up to 27 kilograms (~59 lbs).
  • Extra weight may be purchased at any time before arriving at the airport. If your hold luggage weighs more than your allowance when you arrive at the airport there will be a charge of £12 (~$13) fee for each 1 kilogram of excess weight, per item, per flight.
  • If you’re traveling with family or friends on the same flight and booking, you can pool your total weight allowance.

For baggage fees related to special luggage (sporting equipment, musical instruments, etc.) please refer to easyJet’s policy.

Can I Prepay for Baggage?

easyJet does allow passengers the ability to prepay for luggage online or via the mobile app.

Here are the ways to prepay:

  • Log in to the Manage Bookings area of the easyJet website and choose the Add hold luggage option.
  • Download and log in to the Manage Bookings area of the easyJet mobile app and choose the Add hold luggage option.

Credit Cards That Reimburse You for Checked Bag Fees

easyJet is a popular way to hop around Europe, but checked bag fees can pile up. If you need a card to reimburse some of those fees, check out the Capital One cards below that reimburse travel purchases in the last 90 days at a rate of 1 cent per mile.

I have prechecked my hold bag online (15kg) for £33.98. I assume that is for outward and inbound?
Any comments helpful…

Hi Lawson, as we’re not easyJet we can’t 100% confirm but usually the way airlines charge fees is on a per flight basis. Meaning, you would have a cost on the outbound and a cost on the inbound. Since I cannot see your receipt and you have not given any additional information on the confirmation of your payment, I can’t speculate on whether or not this was for one or both flights.

If I were you, I’d read over your confirmation of payment thoroughly or even call easyJet’s customer service to inquire directly with them since they’ll have the most accurate info about your booking.

23kg each, so can 1 person take a bag weighing 15kg and 1 weighing 8kg? So 2 bags total, but not exceeding the 23kg max.
Thanks

Jarrod West

December 04, 2019

Hi Melanie,

Unfortunately, that is not allowed. You are limited to one item up to 23 kgs. Thanks for reading!

Can we cancel one case for our holiday in March as my husband mistakenly added two bags at 23kg? We are only going for one week to Madeira.

Jarrod West

December 31, 2019

Hi Linda,

Unfortunately, easyJet does not usually offer refunds for prepaid luggage, but there is no harm in calling and asking.

Thanks for reading!

Can I pay for checked luggage at the airport?

Jarrod West

August 17, 2020

Hi Tammy,

Yes, you can pay for your checked luggage at the airport. But keep in mind that easyJet does raise the price a bit for not paying in advance.

Paid for hold luggage with EasyJet. Can I also take cabin luggage?

Jarrod West

September 15, 2020

Hi Kathy,

Yes, all easyJet customers can be 1 carry-on bag on their flight for free.

My wife booked 1 case for the hold between the 2 of us. We have been charged £60 at the check in as they said it was 6kg over the limit of 22kg.
Is this correct and how do we avoid this on the return as my wife says she is going around in circles on their website?

Jarrod West

September 17, 2020

Hi Colin,

easyJet has 3 purchase options for checked baggage, 15 kgs, 23 kgs, and 32 kgs. Do you know which option your wife purchases? To avoid any other mixups I recommend you contact the easyJet customer service team directly at 011-44-330-365-5454.

EasyJet Hands Free Service
Passengers can pay £7 to drop their carry-on off at the bag drop desk, where it will be tagged as a priority bag to arrive first on the baggage carousel. Passengers can remove a small item (17.7 x 14.2 x 7.9 inches / 45 x 36 x 20 cm) to take on board with them. This option also includes a free tote bag from EasyJet’s partner, Three.

Using this option, can we drop off our carry-on and take a small bag (kids backpack or purse) onto the flight at no charge? In other words, does the small item have to be removed from the cabin bag being dropped off?

Jarrod West

October 09, 2020

Hi Brad,

Yes, you should be permitted to do this and should not be charged extra.

Sorry, I should have said is the £7 fee for hands free on easyJet flights per passenger for return journey or for each trip. Thanks.

Jacqui Conlan

February 27, 2021

I am struggling with the new baggage allowance rules on Easy Jet. By paying the £7 for hands-free am I increasing my baggage allowance to the standard (56x45x25) cabin bag? The new size of 45x36x20 to fit under the seat in front is just too small for my needs and I’m looking for the most economical way take the old standard sized cabin bag. In addition would I still be allowed to take the new 45x36x20 on board with me. Thanks in advance for any info.

Catherine Luther

February 28, 2021

Hi Jacqui,

Purchasing hands-free does not increase your baggage allowance. To take a standard carry-on bag (56 x 45 x 25 cm) passengers must purchase FLEXI fare, Up Front, or Extra Legroom. This would allow you to take a carry-on and a personal item into the cabin.

Where does it say on my booking that I have purchased Up front to include an extra bag?

Jarrod West

May 11, 2021

Hi Cath,

If you sign in to your account on the easyJet website you should be able to view all of those details.

Shaunie

July 28, 2021

So I’ve read we would have to purchase baggage online after booking with easy jet and it could be up to £50 for 15kg. Does anyone know if this is for a return or would it be up to £50 for each case each way?

Jarrod West

July 30, 2021

Hi Shaunie,

The price you pay would be per bag, per way. Safe travels!

Liviu

August 11, 2021

Do I need to check in a 15kg bag? or is going with me on board?

Jarrod West

August 11, 2021

Hi Liviu,

If the bag fits the carry-on baggage dimensions then you should be able to carry it on board. Otherwise, you will need to check it. Safe travels!

Håkan Konstenius

I bought Up Front tickets and can bring an additional carry-on bag for the overhead locker (max size 56 x 45 x 25cm). What is the weight limit on the bag? Fly from Madeira to Lissabon – Lissabon to Madeira.

Jarrod West

August 17, 2021

Hi Hakan,

Your additional checked bag should not weigh more than 23 kg. Safe travels!

Aqsa Hafiz

November 05, 2021

If I buy one additional bag of 26/29kg, does the suitcase have a restriction in terms of (Height/Length) or can additional luggage go into any suitcase, providing it is not over the weight limit?

Jarrod West

November 11, 2021

Hi Aqsa,

All checked bags must not exceed max linear dimensions of 108 inches (275 cm) per piece.

Polidon Stratoberdha

November 19, 2021

If the luggage that I have bought is overweight by 4kg how much should I pay at the airport?

Jarrod West

November 19, 2021

Hi Polidon,

You will be charged £12 for each 1kg of excess weight at the airport, so £48 for 4kg.

Jacqueline Cousins

November 30, 2021

I have purchased two additional hold luggage cases. Does this mean 1 for the outbound flight and one for the inbound flight?
I just presumed I had purchased two one for me one for my daughter now I’m second guessing myself. Never used easyJet before.

Jarrod West

November 30, 2021

Hi Jacqueline,

I wouldn’t be able to say definitely without seeing the baggage terms posted on your ticket. If you’re uncertain then I recommend you contact the EasyJet customer service team directly. Safe travels!

Julie

March 06, 2022

Hi, we have just booked in online and have printed our boarding passes for our flight to tenerife later this month and on measuring our carry on cases find they are now too big for under seat. Can we still pay the extra to be able to use them?

Jarrod West

March 07, 2022

Hi Julie,

Yes, you should be able to pay an additional fee to bring them on your flight.

Helene Perilli

May 24, 2023

A person is allowed 23kg so 2 people equals 46kg. If 2 people use one suitcase will they be charged if the case weighs more that 23kg?

Chris Hassan

May 25, 2023

The fee is per bag, so if your bag weighs more than 23kg, you will be charged extra.
