While Allegiant Air offers budget base ticket pricing, you’re likely to owe more than you might expect in baggage fees. For example, Allegiant charges a fee for standard carry-on luggage, which increases in cost the longer you wait to purchase.
It’s also important to note the max weight for a checked bag is 40 pounds (compared to the general average of 50 pounds) and the same time-sensitive fees apply for purchasing checked baggage.

Hi Cheryl, we’re not quite sure what you’re asking – the featured image is simply an image for the purpose of getting the point across that this is an article about baggage fees.
That being said, when measuring your case, the dimensions include all wheels and handles, with the handle in the collapsed position. It’s very likely Allegiant will make you fit your bag in their sizer before considering it a carry-on that will fit so I would either call them directly to inquire or air on the side of caution. Hey Tim, Allegiant is notorious for being pretty darned strict… BUT I’ve never heard of them taking out a tape measure. If you can shove that bag in the little sizing frame then you get to take it with you. Some people’s become just a little more compact taking into account give at the zippers. Good luck!

“Each piece of sporting equipment will be considered a checked bag with all applicable fees applied per person, per bag, per segment. All Baggage Fees are non-refundable except as provided in Article 65 below. Each bag must weigh 40 lbs or less and the outside measurements of each bag must not exceed eighty (80) inches. Applicable fees will be applied for those bags exceeding the weight and size limits. The total number of bags allowed may not exceed 5 per passenger.
Sporting Equipment – The following sporting equipment will be considered as an additional checked bag when in a container acceptable to Carrier:
8. Fishing tackle box and fishing rod: so long as the rod is encased in a cylindrical fishing rod container suitable to Carrier for withstanding normal checked baggage handling without sustaining damage to the rod.”

If you purchase your ticket in advance at the airport and include a bag with the purchase, the bag will cost the same as if you had purchased a ticket online and prepaid your bag. I often do this. It will also save you a hefty convenience fee which Allegiant charges for online ticket purchases but are not charged at the airport. If you pay in advance the price is $45. If you weight until you’re at the airport the price goes up to $50.
