Regarding Alaska Airlines miles – if I buy miles (via points.com) and use my Alaska Airline Visa card – will I get 3X for making an Alaska Airlines purchase? This seems more specific than say CSP for a general travel bonus category.

Hi Mary,
Points purchased from points.com do not qualify as an Alaska air purchase, so you’ll just earn 1x per $1 on the purchase when paying with your Alaska card.

Which airlines sell their points directly ( and not through Points.com)? Thank you!

Hi Vince,
To my knowledge, the 4 programs that allow this are American, Avianca, British Airways, and Delta.

Hello Jarrod,
Maybe you can advise me if I should not be doing this. I buy Southwest points (usually 50% off) when my sister and niece travel with me. I make all the travel arrangements and it’s easier for me to keep up with if we have to make changes or cancel and then they pay me back. If I didn’t buy them points, they would get a flight credit in their name and then I would have to deal with that when rebooking. She does not use credit cards 🤷🏼♀️ Do you have any better ideas or an I making a bad choice? Thanks!

Hi Lisa,
While purchasing Southwest points is not optimal from a value perspective, if you find that you frequently need to cancel and rebook flights and want to avoid credits being issued in other flyers names, then it sounds like your setup works well.
