Welcome Offer and Earning SkyMiles

Between the welcome offer bonus, the Delta Gold Business card has a lot to offer Delta frequent flyers.

Earn 2 SkyMiles per $1 spent on purchases made directly with Delta and 1 SkyMile per $1 for your other purchases. Your SkyMiles never expire!

Benefits of the Delta Gold Business Card

Delta travelers will delight in the many benefits offered with their convenience in mind.

Paying to check your luggage has made flying more expensive, but you can get your first bag checked free with the card.

This perk also applies to up to 8 other passengers on your reservation. This comes out to a $60 savings per person round-trip, for a total value of $540!

Instead of waiting to board the plane, you’ll get Zone 1 priority boarding on Delta flights. That means you skip ahead of passengers sitting in the main cabin and those flying economy.

Once on board, you’ll get a 20% discount on inflight purchases. The discount will appear as a statement credit on your credit card bill.

You can also relax before your flight at the Delta Sky Club for only $29. Enjoy this reduced fee for you and up to 2 companions when you hold a same-day airline ticket with any airline and use the card.

Delta Sky Club access includes complimentary drinks and snacks, private restrooms, newspapers and magazines, and satellite TV. Wi-Fi access makes it easy to catch up on work while you’re waiting for your next flight.

Bottom Line: Benefits of the Delta Gold Business card include a free checked bag for up to 8 companions, priority boarding, a 20% inflight discount, and discounted Sky Club passes!

Other Card Perks: Insurances and Services

Just like other Amex credit cards, the Delta Gold Business card offers many travel and shopping perks.

When you’re on the road, the car rental loss/damage insurance and Global Assist hotline can make you feel more comfortable.  Shopping protections, such as return and purchase protections or extended warranties, can protect your pocketbook, too!

Plus, find out about the latest ticket pre-sales and cardmember-only events in your city with entertainment access.

Rest easy knowing you won’t be responsible for fraudulent charges when you call the number on the back of your card. With fraud protection, you won’t even have to pay a deductible.

Bottom Line: Enjoy car rental, return, purchase, and warranty insurance as well as entertainment access and more with the Delta Gold Business card.

Benefits for Small Businesses

Running a small business can be a lot of work! Reduce some of that stress by taking advantage of the benefits available with the card.

First, add employee cards and earn more Delta SkyMiles. You won’t be charged an annual fee for employee cards, and you’ll have control over spending limits.

Access all your accounts from almost anywhere through the mobile and tablet apps — a useful feature when you’re always on the go. Also, receive your statements and review your purchase history online.

Other helpful services include account alerts to let you know when your payment is due or notify you about fraudulent activity on your card. ReceiptMatch can add receipts to your transactions, and dispute resolution is there if you get into a bind.

Bottom Line: Get employee cards with no additional fee, plus access to mobile apps and account alerts to help you manage your business finances with the Delta Gold Business card (rates and fees).

Combining Cards for More Value

Consider combining the Delta Gold Business card with an American Express personal card for even more value.

For more points, choose a Membership Rewards card that allows you to transfer points to Delta at a 1:1 ratio.

One option is The Platinum Card® from American Express, which includes complimentary access to Delta Sky Clubs. It also earns 5x Membership Rewards points on flights booked directly with airlines or with Amex Travel and on eligible hotels booked on Amex Travel (up to $500,000 per year).

A similar card is The Business Platinum® Card from American Express which earns 5x Membership Rewards points on flights and prepaid hotels on Amex Travel. You can also receive 35% points back on all first and business-class flights with all airlines available through Amex Travel.

Bottom Line: Combining credit cards can be a powerful strategy. The cards you get depend on your own personal travel desires.

Best Way To Redeem Delta SkyMiles

The primary method for redeeming SkyMiles earned with the Delta Gold Business card is on flights with Delta, Delta partner airlines, and Delta codeshare partners.

Unfortunately, Delta no longer publishes an official award chart, which makes it a bit of a challenge to figure out the lowest price available.

Here are some options to redeem Delta SkyMiles for max value:

Mileage Upgrade

Wouldn’t you love a shot to enjoy a more comfortable seat in another class, especially on the way back from a ton of meetings? Well, you can!

With a Mileage Upgrade Award, you can go from the Main Cabin or Delta Comfort+ to a seat in first class, the new Delta Premium Select, or Delta One.

Upgrade Your Seat

Upgrade your seat during your original booking (at delta.com or with a reservations specialist) and use your SkyMiles to pay the difference between a Main Cabin fare and a business class, first class, or Delta One fare on eligible U.S. flights!

Join Delta Sky Club

Having access to the Delta Sky Club for a discounted price of $29 with the Delta Gold Business card is an excellent perk. But how about becoming a Sky Club member?

Executive Membership gives you unlimited access (including 2 guests each time you visit) and requires 70,000 SkyMiles.

Individual Membership gives you unlimited access for yourself. If you want to bring up to 2 guests, it will cost $29 per guest per visit. You’ll need to redeem 47,000 SkyMiles for this option.

Pay With SkyMiles

With the Delta Gold Business card, you can Pay With Miles to reduce the price of a ticket. Start redeeming at 5,000 SkyMiles; every 5,000 SkyMiles will reduce the cost of your ticket by $50.

Use SkyMiles To Shop

Whether you want to get a magazine subscription, shop the SkyMiles Marketplace, or bid on a once-in-a-lifetime experience, all it takes is the right amount of SkyMiles!

Best Way To Maximize Delta SkyMiles

The fastest way to earn SkyMiles with an airline credit card is usually by purchasing airfare, and the same holds true for the Delta Gold Business card. After all, it earns 2x SkyMiles for Delta Air Lines purchases.

But what other strategies can your small business employ to earn more points with the card? Let’s take a look at some options for earning Delta SkyMiles.

Tip #1: Put as many of your small business expenses on the card as possible to accrue a lot of SkyMiles. As we discussed, you’ll get 2x SkyMiles for Delta purchases, but that’s not all.

Tip #2: Fly Delta and earn 2x SkyMiles for using the card, plus another 5x SkyMiles for being a SkyMiles member! That’s a total of 7x SkyMiles!

If you achieve elite status, you’ll be able to earn even more with extra bonus SkyMiles per $1: Silver (2x), Gold (3x), Platinum (4x), and Diamond (6x).

Even better, when you reach Platinum Medallion status you get to pick a Choice Benefit (2 with Diamond status). There are several Choice Benefit options, including up to 25,000 bonus SkyMiles!

Tip #3: Do you have any other personal or business American Express credit cards that earn Membership Rewards points? Well, you can transfer those points to your Delta SkyMiles account because Delta is a Membership Rewards transfer partner.

Here a few business credit cards that allow you to transfer points to Delta:

Tip #4: If you’re going to be making retail purchases with your card, try using the SkyMiles online shopping portal to earn extra rewards for your purchases.

Similarly, if you’re taking clients out to dinner, you could look up a restaurant that is part of the Delta Dining program so that you can maximize rewards.

Alternative Cards to the Delta Gold Business Card

You really need to fly Delta regularly to get value from the Delta Gold Business Card.

Without flying Delta, you won’t be able to earn as many SkyMiles and won’t be able to redeem for Delta flights, which is the redemption option with the highest value.

In that case, you are better off with another business credit card like the Amex Business Green card.

With it, earn 2x points for travel booked on Amex Travel (not just Delta), and 1x points for everything else.

Bottom Line: If you’re not flying Delta frequently, the Delta Gold Business card might not offer you enough value. There are great alternative cards to choose from.

I applied for this card when I booked a flight through Delta airlines and I was approved. The only reason I applied is because I was offered a $200 discount on my reservation if I was approved and when I looked at my reservation the 200 discount was not applied. That is false advertisement! I am very upset and want to cancel my application and not deal with your company at all. Why was I offered that discount and then it wasn’t applied?

Hi Yvonne,

I’m sorry that you’ve had this experience, but we do not have any affiliation with American Express or Delta. We are Upgraded Points, a website that publishes helpful travel information. With that said, it is most likely the case that you will receive the $200 as a statement credit, but it might take a few weeks to post to your account. If you want to speak to someone directly I recommend you call the customer service number on the back of Delta SkyMiles Gold card, and they should be able to assist you.
