For United Club members, I know you need a same day boarding pass to access a lounge. Does that mean that I can access the lounge on arrival (with NO connecting or ongoing flight)? Or only on departure? I can’t find this anywhere in the rules one online. Thanks!

September 03, 2019

Hi Adam, United Club members can access the United Club upon arrival. Thanks!

We are so excited due to the high praise of your business class as I booked three business tickets going to Europe for my family. We can’t wait. We were wondering if there is a time limit of how soon you can go to the lounge when we fly out of LAX? We will be arriving Heathrow and will be waiting for a connecting flight to Brussels. We are not flying United to Brussels but will be exhausted after such a long journey. May we spend our layover time in the Heathrow lounge?

Oh, it will also be my 14 year old daughter’s birthday as we fly does United do anything for birthdays while flying or in the lounge?

Thank you so much for your time.

Jarrod West

September 16, 2019

Hi Susan,

There is no time limit on how soon you can arrive to the lounge. Keep in mind that we have no affiliation with United so I cannot say as to whether they will be able to make special arrangements for your daughters birthday. To find the answer to that I recommend you contact them directly. I hope your family has a wonderful trip and that your daughter has a great birthday!

The Explorer Card provides two Club passes each year. Can these be used for entry into a Club lounge if you are ticketed on a different airline? Or do you need to be flying United to use the pass?

Jarrod West

September 22, 2019

Hi Matt,

Yes, per the terms and conditions, you need to provide a same-day boarding pass for travel on United or one of their Star Alliance partners in order to access the Club lounge.

If a club member takes a guest to one of the United Club locations does the guest also need to have a United airlines same day boarding pass?

Jarrod West

December 12, 2019

Hi Harry,

If you hold a Club membership, you should be able to bring a guest into the lounge with you no matter which airline they are flying.

Can I give my pass to a friend who is traveling on an international flight with United?

Catherine Luther

December 29, 2019

Hi Praserth,

Unfortunately not as the terms and conditions state:

“Membership cards are non-transferable and may not be loaned to others. United representatives will confiscate membership cards that are expired or presented by anyone other than the member.”

Does it have to be a united boarding pass? Or any airline boarding pass? To use a one-day pass. Thanks!

Katie Seemann

January 15, 2020

Hi Oscar,
This changed a few months ago, so now you have to have a United boarding pass to use a one day United Club pass. I learned this the hard way the day the new policy went into effect when I showed up with a Southwest boarding pass and was denied access.

I have a “Lifetime Red Carpet Club” membership card plus a spousal card which I purchased many years ago. As an ethical question: “Am I now prohibited” from using this long ago purchase without meeting recent new requirements?

When flying out of Denver a week ago the United Club that was indicated as “open” was closed. Web site still stated it was open and the hours posted on the door did as well. Called United and they indicated it was open as well. United’s written response was vague with no indication if it is actually supposed to be open or not.

Flying out of Houston tomorrow and it will be interesting to see if the Club in Terminal E is open or not.

I mainly fly Delta but also have a United Club membership. For many months, Delta’s Sky Club has been telling people in LAX terminal 2 that they can’t serve alcoholic beverages because of COVID restrictions in LA County and that any food provided has to be taken out into the terminal to be eaten. Is this also a new restriction with the United Club at LAX or is there still business as usual with a bar and box food? If this is the case, I think I will switch my flying this year to United because I am tired of having no real lounge to use with Delta at LAX. I have not seen any comment online that there are restrictions at the United club. I’m trying to figure out whether the supposed LA County restrictions are across the board with all airline lounges or whether Delta is using some restriction that may require increased personnel or some other requirement as an excuse to say that cannot provide the service because they do not want to meet whatever the new threshold may be. (This comment is being posted late January 2021)

Does a non rev’s United boarding pass on their phone qualify them for admittance with the purchase of a day pass to the United Club? If so, can the sponsoring retiree buy it on their United phone app and gift it to them?

Jarrod West

May 18, 2021

Hi Katret,

As far as I know, any person with a United Club day pass that has a United boarding pass, even if it’s non-rev, should be eligible to enter a United Club. There also should not be an issue if it is gifted by someone else. Feel free to double-check with the United customer service team before booking though!

Are United employees and retirees able to purchase membership to the United Club?
Is there a special rate for employees and retirees?

Jarrod West

Hi Otto,

Yes, you should be permitted to purchase a United Club membership. But to my knowledge, I do not believe that United offers a special rate to retirees.

Lydia

December 19, 2021

My husband and I are flying first class from Newark airport to Portland, OR airport the evening of 12/21/21. We are Mileage Plus members. Do we have access to the United Club lounge at Newark? If not, can we purchase a one-time pass? How much would it cost and how would we do that.
Our goal is not to have to sit at a crowded gate during this pandemic.
When I looked online, it listed lounges or pop-up locations in Terminals A and C. We don’t know what terminal we are flying out of. How can we find out if we these locations are near our terminal/gate and if purchasing a one-time access would help us avoid a crowded situation?

December 20, 2021

Yes, you will have access to the United Club lounge since you are flying first class.

Is there a list of current domestic lounges that will accept one time United Club passes? It seems like one time pass use is often unavailable. I have noticed signs that say United Club no one time passes accepted.

Hi Julia. All United Clubs will take a one-time pass when there is space available. Unfortunately, with the increase in travelers, clubs can be at capacity and those with passes can be turned away.
